From the people-who-need-to-get-a-life corner (I did not read all the email messages):
The Park Slope Hat Spat: Read All the Emails

New York mag has a cute front-of-book item today on an only-in-Park-Slope battle that recently raged on an email list for earnest and progressive parents in that earnestly progressive Brooklyn neighborhood. As Ben Mathis-Lilley explains:

A few weeks ago, a member of the Park Slope Parents e-mail forum who’d encountered a stray piece of winterwear in the neighborhood posted a notice to the group titled “Found: boy’s hat.” … [S]ubscriber “Lisa” went public with her problems regarding the gender-specifying description of the hat. Wondering how such a categorization would feel to a spiky-hat-wearing girl, Lisa wrote, “It’s innocent little comments like this that I find the most hurtful.” A third member responded soon after, saying such political correctness drove her “up the wall,” and a heated discussion ensued. Lisa’s supporters questioned their opponents’ commitment to “the free interchange of ideas and questions” … while an opposing faction expressed facetious dismay that the original poster, who had described the hat as likely belonging to “an older child,” was not more considerate toward “younger children who happen to have large heads.” … [O]ne poster questioned the use of “hat,” asking if the object might be more sensitively labeled a “soft, porous bowl.”
It’s all pleasantly, kookily amusing, right? Not quite. In summarized form, yes, it’s amusing enough. But we had a chance to read the entire exchange — stretching on for days, with charges of political correctness and anti-political correctness, sexism and stereotyping — and we’re much less amused. The whole thing is after the jump; prepare to be intrigued, amazed, disgusted — and quite certain you could never, ever be paid enough to move out there.

And I'm off. The events going on right now are disturbing (immigration, the potential losing the House and/or Senate to the Dems, etc.) No good news it seems. Talk to you all later.

If I were those boys, I'd sue somebody. They have been trashed and threatened, all thanks to an out of control DA who didn't even given them the benefit of a doubt.

The coach resigned too. This is such a mess. The thing that makes me angry is who to believe in rape cases now? The pendulum has swung and it seems that any woman who cries rape is automatically believed. There should be a gag order until the DNA has been tested and confirms just who did the deed. I despise the media and lawyers more and more daily.

My grandaughter told me she is a Republican (she is 7) because she likes President Bush. I explained the basic differences between democrats and Republicans (leaving out the stories about communists and the criminal element) and she said she thinks our side is right! (This is the child who reads at junior high level and thinks deep thoughts). I am in SUCH a good mood!

I think the kids are being born smarter nowadays. My little red-headed nephew has been pointing out letters since he was 20 months old. He can now spell his name and read the letters upside down. My sister says he needs to work on his math skills, he can count, but hasn't put together quite yet the concept of matching objects to the number. His favorite thing to do when I am visiting is to pull the magnetic letters off the fridge and ask me what the letter is (he knows, he just wants to make sure I know.)

My brother and his family were down a couple of weeks ago at my parents home. Their baby is 4 months old. I haven't seen him that much, so I held him while his mom left the room to attend to the other children. He was on my lap, craned his head around, looked at me for a good thirty seconds and started to cry. Loud. Stranger danger at four months old. Sigh. He is a cutie though, quieted right down when I handed him over to his dad. I've lost my touch. :(

It's only cause he doesn't know you're his auntie. He'll learn, the more you visit, the more he'll learn who you are. You still have the touch, it's the distance.

Till tomorrow All. Sleep well, stay safe, john/dog behave.
Nite All.

To keep you out of mischief, there's another article, "Paying Attention", in nationalreview.com by Bill Crawford, giving GOOD NEWS from Iraq that will not get much coverage in msm.

2 cups of coffee have not yet gotten me up to snuff in linking this morning. 8)

Good morning! Sorry I fell disappeared last night. I got SO sleepy all of a sudden that by the time I got ready for bed, I just headed for the bedrooom.

It should be another nice day today, so I am going to clean up some more areas of the garden. I am WAY behind Iowa Granny and I am going to try and take advantage of the nice weather while we have it!

I just got this in email......
Dear President Bush:

I'm about to plan a little trip with my family and extended family,
and I would like to ask you to assist me. I'm going to walk across the border from the U.S. into Mexico, and I need to make a few
arrangements. I know you can help with this.

I plan to skip all the legal stuff like visas, passports, immigration
quotas and laws. I'm sure they handle those things the same way you do here. So, would you mind telling your buddy, President Vicente Fox, that I'm on my way over? Please let him know that I will be expecting the following:

1. Free medical care for my entire family.

2. English-speaking government bureaucrats for all services I might
need, whether I use them or not.

3. All government forms need to be printed in English.

4. I want my kids to be taught by English-speaking teachers.

5. Schools need to include classes on American culture and history.

6. I want my kids to see the American flag flying on the top of the
flag pole at their school with the Mexican flag flying lower down.

7. Please plan to feed my kids at school for both breakfast and lunch.

8. I will need a local Mexican driver's license so I can get easy
access to government services.

9. I do not plan to have any car insurance, and I won't make any
effort to learn local traffic laws.

10. In case one of the Mexican police officers does not get the memo
from Pres. Fox to leave me alone, please be sure that all police
officers speak English.

11. I plan to fly the U.S. flag from my house top, put flag decals on
my car, and have a gigantic celebration on July 4th. I do not want any complaints or negative comments from the locals.

12. I would also like to have a nice job without paying any taxes, and don't enforce any labor laws or tax laws.

13. Please tell all the people in the country to be extremely nice and never say a critical word about me, or about the strain I might place on the economy.

Thank you so much for your kind help.

Sincerely,
