I came in a little while ago, and have to take a shower. It was really dusty out there. I began the AM with my walk on the golf course, but this time I took a #5 club and a golf ball. I made it from the 4th tee to the 8th and lost my ball so I came home. BAH I spent the rest of the day working in the yard. My house is suffering.

oh my Lysie.. words are escaping me know although a myriad of thoughts are here..
I know you have a determined spirit but it seems you desire to love & help has been broadsided by MIL.. You so much want to do what is right & so often it gets pretty muddy with LIFE.
Others have offered good ideas. I know too you want to honor your hubby & it is his MOM.. wouldn't it be nice if a whack on side of head w/2 X 4 (you like those as i recall?) would knock some sense into her.
I truly believe she has NO idea how she is negatively affecting you all. I pray daily that the Lord would take me before I am a burden/problematic to my son & his family. It isn't fair.

They have been trashed and threatened, all thanks to an out of control DA who didn't even given them the benefit of a doubt. And there isn't a damn thing they they can do about it. And you don't get a t-shirt.

Re: whining. I don't allow myself to do it....heard enough from my mother, who got what she wanted from my dad by whining. I vowed years ago that I would not succumb to whining or tolerate it. I feel guilty right now for even revealing this trait of my mother's, but it was true.

I'm going to kick my feet up on the table, sigh, and stop.
Everybody else has to deal with it.
I've marked the (local) veggie guy for a couple of mil of the estate.
Everyone else gets what they get.

Well, good news! The grandchildren were NOT whining and had lots of pictures of their trip to DC last week. AND they brought me a President George W. Bush pen with his likeness carved on the top! Boy, do my grandkids know me or what?
My grandaughter told me she is a Republican (she is 7) because she likes President Bush. I explained the basic differences between democrats and Republicans (leaving out the stories about communists and the criminal element) and she said she thinks our side is right! (This is the child who reads at junior high level and thinks deep thoughts). I am in SUCH a good mood!
Went to church for penance service this evening. They had 14 priests there to hear confessions. Luckily, my seat in the back of the church got me towards the front of the confession line, or I still would be at church. There were people from 2 parishes there, and it was packed. That is a good thing, as it means people are taking things seriously and not just showing up for mass.

Your granddaughter, age 7 and reading at junior high level and thinking deep thoughts..........WOW! She's well on her way to being another Miss Marple.
I know you must be joyful that your grandkids are so loving and in tune w/you...knowing just what present would please you.
My sweet and loving grandmother died when I was 6 yo, and my other grandmother lived in a distant city, so I didn't see her often enough to get to know her. For those reasons, I determined that for my own grandchildren I would try to be the kind of grandmother I would have liked having.
We grandmothers, thus, can indulge ourselves as well as our grandchildren. 8)

How true. There's no denying that some days I get a bit tired, but it is such a joy to be with them.
My dad's mother died when I was two, so all I have is one distant memory of standing in front of her and looking at her knees. All I know about her is what my dad said and her old pictures. I wish I had known her...I have a great picture of her in a sombrero and jodhpurs on a horse at their ranch in Texas, around 1924-25.
Any way, I am determined to be a good grandma.

It just so turns out.... that I know someone who I used for a reference on most recent potential job application, that knows someone that I know really well, that happens to work at the company that I'm applying to, via the contract house.
I haven't talked to a lot of those folks since the war began and I left. It's good to talk to them again.
