The geriatric crowd across the fence put together a goodie bag for me. About 15 lbs of meat... T-bone, rib-eye, yellow cat sweetmeat, and some odds and ends, including a pound of dark chocolate.
Gotta love 'em. They know that things are tight right now for me.

See, now, I would have mentioned the chocolate first, and then added, oh yeah, a bunch of other stuff, like meat etc.;^)
Bless those kind folks for watching over our dear Johnny.

We've had a cool, rainy, windy day today also but no tornadoes. Tomorrow it's supposed to be sunny and in the 50's. Looking forward to that.
You've certainly had your share of tornado warnings down by you, Granny. Glad they missed you.

Oh... I recovered the lost files on the broken computer. I then un-broke it, and am copying the files back onto the newly un-broke laptop. 3 hours each way to copy the files, but it will make a difference at any interview that I might happen to have this week. Lord willing, and the creek don't rise...

WAY TO GO! Your son has overcome a lot of hurdles to make this achievement. I'm proud of him and you and the Duchess. Y'all done good!

Tomorrow will be nasty here.:(
Oh well, we had a lovely week last week. Can't complain. At least it's not 90 like it is elsewhere where a certain young medic of my acquaintance is "vacationing.";^)

Yep. It was glowing ashes when I approached it today.
Since I'm a computer professional... I should have back ups. I didn't.
I'm going to apply my professional standards to my personal systems from here forward. I will automagically mirror my files to a safe filesystem that is unrelated to the laptop. (Translation: I promise to back my stuff up from now on)

Chet Atkins... 'Country Gentleman' is playing. I love that music. Complex, but approachable.
You probably don't listen to stuff with slide guitars...

Thanks. I really appreciate that.
I guess a lot of people don't understand how gullible people can be mislead. Well, I am going to do some more laundry.

Backups, hmmm.
Friday and yesterday I spent major time syncronizing a database I have. It seems that some months ago I was adding new data to the backup and not the main file. BUT, instead of being able just to make the backup the main, and delete the main file, I noticed that for some inexplicable reason, the backup file didn't have about 200 of the names on it. So, was having to print off from the backup the new info and manually enter it to the main file. There is no "append data" configuration for this program. I hate manually entering!
After two days, I got it done. The backup file is now deleted. The reason I made this error in the first place is because the program doesn't have a SAVE AS feature nor a MAKE BACKUP feature. In order to backup, I have to go under Explorer and copy and paste the file where I want to back it up and rename it to include "backup" in the file name.
It is all done now and not only is it backed-up on the computer, but also I've stored it off the computer. It is daunting to think that every time I add data to the main file, I have to go through the backup rigamarole again. Oy vay!
It took longer to do than to type.

There may be an automated way to do that, but I don't do windows, so I don't know. Under linux, there is an automagical way to back stuff up.
I just ate tomorrow's lunch. That is two suppers tonight. Back over the fence, and see if I can get a refill. I'm shameless sometimes... ;>)

I know there are programs which can copy and save things in more than one place. I'm loathe to add another program to this computer. We got it in 1999. It is running well, but doesn't like the later stuff. I'll just keep doing it this way until we get a new one.

Whoa, I had no idea that he was trying to sell this novel as a "history".
As I said, I have read much of his work, and there is no way I would ever take The DiVinci Code as real. It shocks me to know that he is trying to manipulate people into believing a hoax!

That is what is so infuriating. It is so bad that the Catholic Bishops have set up a web site to refute things in the book that are false...because uneducated people are thinking it is true, because Brown has made these comments.
I have read plenty of books that denigrate certain aspects of Christianity in their plots, but I knew they were fiction and simply read them with a critical eye. This guy is different.
