I think he is thinking that as long as the Soul Patrol keeps him safe he can coast. Maybe. But if that's what he's doing then I'll lose respect for him.
He should be trying to win it every week. All of them should.

He should be trying to win it every week. All of them should. Every single time they go on stage, they're marketing themselves to the audience. If any of them ever thinks that can "coast" or take a night off, they're sadly mistaken. It may not hurt them that week, but it will hurt them eventually.
