The Hobbit Hole XIX - Tomorrow we may come this way...
The Freeper Hobbit Hole ^

Posted on 01/27/2005 9:59:05 AM PST by ecurbh

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Tomorrow we may come this way...

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

Hey! that reminds me! We weren't totally useless without the internet! We picked up a doggie door and installed it yesterday! With these trips coming up, we figure the least stressful place to leave the dogs when we go on trips is at home. And we have a couple trips comin up. This way we can have Katie come by and feed, but they aren't locked in or out. Gidget can even watch TV, though ecurbh wants to put it on a timer so it's not on ALL the time :~D

Here ecurbh is taping up the hole template in the back door.

Here it is all done!

We taped up the flap for awhile, to make it easier to coax them through. Here's the cat checking it out.

Homer was the first to come through unassisted with the flap down.

Gidget was much more reluctant.

But this afternoon she finally did it! no help, but still with coaxing...

Gidget: "Would it have KILLED you to get the next larger size?"

We've been encouraging them to use it by not letting them in or out through the front door when then want in or out. Homer is so far the only one to return and come through the back door without being called and coaxed.

Looks good! LOL at Gidget having her TV time restricted. ;-)

I think it could just stay on all the time! It's not like they have to get rest and be up early! Maybe the night would be the loneliest time!

Aww, he's awfully sweet....

Does he sleep on peoples' faces, because though I like cats, when they suddenly appear on me during the night I tend to freak out. Though I suppose I could just close the door.

Never! Ick...as much as I like cats, any one that tried to get close to my face when I wasn't expecting it would get smacked.

Naw...his most annoying trait is wanting to play fetch every waking hour. That's easily remedied by hiding the ball when he gets too obnoxious.

Halfheartedly packing here. I don't really have good boxes, so I'm mostly packing odds and ends that don't weigh much.

Whew, because I don't want to attack your cat. And I'm not responsible for what I do when I'm asleep.

Packing just isn't fun. I have a suggestion; right now closet space is kind of sparse, so I would recommend putting your off-season clothes in one of those plastic tubs that you can stick below hanging clothes (I've got one of those myself)

I'll have to get one of those tubs when I get there...I had some, but they were hard to fit in the car, so I put my stuff in boxes.

They could probably just stay in the boxes, for that matter.

The main trouble is gonna be books. As much as I narrowed 'em down...I still have a lot. I don't need to unpack everything, but there are quite a few boxes. Guess I could always rent a storage locker.

Any news on the cat policy?

I've been listening to some ancient recordings I found around the 'net.

The oldest one is from 1878;
the earliest more-or-less intelligible one is from 1888, Edison himself speaking;
of particular interest to me, the bugler of the Charge of the Light Brigade sounding "charge" on a bugle used at Waterloo;
famous speakers, Theodore Roosevelt, W.H. Taft, and William Jennings Bryan;
Big Ben recorded at 11:00 AM, July 16, 1890...

Where did you find that?

Hm...I just came across a poem written by myself at age 9.

If I were an Aztec
I wouldn't live long,
I'd be killed at a temple
as big as King Kong.
I'd be sliced at an altar,
and thrown in a hole,
and all my blood
would be put in a bowl.

If I were an Egyptian
and if I died
Before I was buried,
I'd be mummified.
They'd put all my insides
including my heart
Inside of a jug
on my favorite cart.
They'd build a pyramid
and put me inside.
It would be about 500 feet wide.
And also inside
they would put my wife,
and she'd have to stay there
the rest of her life.

I was such a pleasant child...

Books, we can pile anywhere. Don't worry about finding a place for them.

No, the office closes at five, so I won't have a chance to ask until Wednesday.

No...just telling it from another character's perspective. I did that a lot, looking at the other stuff in that book.

Boy I was weird.

I wonder if they'd be OK with using these , if they DO have a declawing policy.

A lot hinges on this, though I realize I'm probably fretting needlessly!

First off I don't think they're going to risk losing a paying client over cats' claws. They've got a lot of vacant apartments...

Second, are you by chance refering to Michael Card's Starkindler album? I hope you are because I want to steal it from you.

Yep, that's the album. 2J sent it to me.

We can blast it, then? ;-)

I've really gotta introduce you to certain Celtic rock groups. ..
