I was an avid SNL fan 20 years ago. I would adjust my schedule to watch an episode.
Now, I could care less as it is simplistic, amateurish and easily predictable.
Alienating 50% of their potential audience, perhaps. But I suspect most of the people they'd alienate stopped watching long ago.
I agree. When I was growing up (not too long ago as I'm now in college), from about 6th or 7th grade on, I used to stay up late on Saturday nights and watch at least the first half of the show. I was never really familiar with some of the old greats, but the cast at the end of the 90s was pretty good in my estimation. They've lost a lot of talent and they stopped doing comedy--they transitioned into a DNC mouthpiece.
MAD TV is heading down the slope too. For the first 6 years they were fresh, but now the show is stale and tonight they just plain spent half the show bashing Bush. I still enjoy watching the Comedy Central reruns as THAT was actually comedy. This isn't comedy nor does it purport to be.
You said it so well....
I used to LOVE SNL, with Belushi, Akroyd,Steve Martin,Gilda etc.Every once inawhile I click it on and then turn it off. It's main problem is that it is not funny anymore.
Is it me? Was it just the times back then? But Father Sarducci and Rosanarosandana were funny and it wasn't always political. Do people really find it funny?
