I'm never watching Saturday Night Live again

Posted on 11/20/2004 9:15:24 PM PST by paulsy

I can't believe what I just saw on that show. If you watched it, you know what I'm talking about. The "funhouse" skit...

Triumph stinks, Petronski. I would never have thought you'd be one for such puerile humor.

SNL has lost it's way, as it does every four years or so.

Tina Fey as head writer and Weekend Update Anchor? Don't get me started. Why don't they just call the show "radical Lesbian Feminist Hate-fest"

And the Musical Guest, U2, yet another Liberal Millionaire telling me that what I don 't have I don't need. but them? They need millions more of your dollars...

"What you don't have you don't need it now!" (U2, "Beautiful Day")

Hey, I beg to differ, My house DOES need a new roof, and my child DOES need braces.

What I absolutely DON'T need is Lorne "Dr. Evil" Michaels, SNL and U2.

Can't say I won't watch SNL again... But I was equally disturbed and disgusted by the idiocy and ignorance of it all.

The left continues to fool themselves to believe that Bush won because certain people in this country supposedly hate gays and are against abortion. Clearly this makes them feel better. They get to demean Bush voters and supporters, label them racist, homophobic, sexist, etc. (all the typical baseless attacks from the left) and blame their failure on that. Easier for them to just proclaim the people who voted for Bush are stupid and/or hateful rather than consider the possibility they might be wtong or at the very least, be tolerant of opposing views.

And to the guy that asked, YES, I'd say it was worth an FCC complaint.

You said it so well....
I used to LOVE SNL, with Belushi, Akroyd,Steve Martin,Gilda etc.Every once inawhile I click it on and then turn it off. It's main problem is that it is not funny anymore.

Is it me? Was it just the times back then? But Father Sarducci and Rosanarosandana were funny and it wasn't always political. Do people really find it funny?

Speaking of SNL, Tina Fey is NOT funny. I can't watch the show anymore and she has a lot to do with it. She is NOT funny. And I state this because people who reguarly tell me that this chick is funny. She sucks.

Tina Fey gets boatloads of undeserved adulation because she's female, period. She's the first person with a vagina to be SNL's head writer, thus she's a demigod to the Manhattan chattering classes. Pure political correctness.

Unfortunately, as you noted, she just isn't funny. And the show in its current form reflects her inability to recognize or write good humor. I'd say the program hasn't been this bad since the 1985-86 season, and that year it was so bad that it was almost canceled.

One need only look at their political skits to see how far the show has fallen in just the last few years. The cast members they had playing "Bush" and "Kerry" were about as good at the characterizations as any two average guys in a high school homeroom class. They didn't make any attempt to look like Bush or Kerry, and failed miserably at sounding like Bush or Kerry.

I turned over for the first time in months. The skit was a Michael-Mooreish diatribe--a parrotting of the standard Left-wing sterotypes of Republicans. Not even interesting. Not a bit funny. I started watching the next skit, and it appeared to be more of the same, so I clicked away.

If they want to mix Left-wing propaganda with humor, maybe they should give the Daily Show a watch. This was pretty bad.

Around 1985.

It was never "must see" for me.

Any way, I avoided the show since the Bill Buckner fiasco. Not because of game, but because
of guest host Rosanna Arquette trashing the Gipper.

Over the top.

I agree with others that the left only hurts themselves with this trash. The problem is it was shown on SNL which means no one saw it. Perhaps ABC will do something similar before Monday Night Football with not-so-straight Cleveland QB Jeff Garcia. Then we could see the whole country "Red" except for DC of course.

---Why would one watch that tripe in the first place?---

Because it's supposed to be funny? Mindless fun is good sometimes. Try "Freddy Got Fingered" if you haven't already. Now that's funny!

I haven't watched SNL since Eddie Murphty was on the show when I was a kid.

They mistake sarcasm and cheap shots for wit and cleverness.

SNL goes through cycles of being funny and then horribly non-funny and boring. It's definitely in a down cycle right now. Tina Fey and her writing staff are juvenile, vocally liberal, crass, anything BUT funny, and the current cast sucks. In the past, they overcame periods like this by totally cleaning house. Time for that again. I've seen parts of about 3 shows this year, and they sucked beyond comprehension. NOT funny. After the bits I saw last week, never again until this current crew (and Tina Fey in particular) get the boot.

SNL has never been funny.

I disagree. Rosann-Rosanna-Danna (played by Gilda Radner). Coneheads. Father Saduji (sp?) etc...the old SNL was extremely funny.

History Channel is running an interesting episode of Conspiracy! about the Kennedy assassination. New (to me) and quite persuasive single-bullet argument.

And no less funny than SNL.

I'm not sure if complaining to the FCC will get us anywhere.

The way I look at it is that we (meaning normal, mainstream Americans) made Fox News what it is today, and that annoys the MSM to no end. If we show there is an audience for comedy and drama that is not PC, America hating propoganda, there will be shows on TV that mock the left. BTW, the left can't stand to be mocked, it absolutly freaks them out.

U2 played "I will Follow" as a third song right at the end. That's was pretty cool. Nobody plays three songs.

I've been watching the show since the 1970s when I was a kid. No more, that was it.

All:

Reading 19th Century novels is an excellent alternative to putting contemporary crap into your mind. People had both ethics and brains back then. Just a suggestion.
