I don't fault the radio station owners for following the money. Classic rock is a dying demographic.
What is this, the fourth or fifth time since the late 1950s that "mainstream" media has declared rock "dead"?
THEY are the ones actively trying to replace it all the time.
A lot of hispanics I know aren't first generation --- many never did come from Mexico and their families have lived in the USA for many many generations. They of course speak English and are American culturally --- but with the change over to all Spanish --- the ones moving in won't even have any exposure to anything American. They won't have anyone to learn English from --- and that's a big problem.
What doesn't make sense --- you see them changing 10 stations over to latino hip-hop that are all the same --- and of course 10 norteno stations that are all the same and maybe one or two old-timers music --- (mariachi and the old ballads) --- but there are almost no English stations left. It's even more bland and monotonous than ever but they claim somehow they're making money this way. I don't see how.
