Seems like lots of stations go latino now. Does it really pay? Or is it just PC?

Get used to it. Unless we do something about the errant immigration policy in this country, all media will be in spanish. Majority rules.

The FCC should outlaw this crap. It allows people to not bother to learn english and reduces the number of stations that native english speaking americans can listen to.

My listening rights are being disenfranchised!!!!!

Mega 101 is a network; it's been in L.A. for awhile, will probably spread like wildfire.

I think a lot of the music radio audience has switched to listening to MP3s, CDs, and satellite radio. The commercial load got too heavy.

I am shocked that a major radio station converted to foreign language station.

I recall that long ago they had 101 KLOL and 97 Rock. Also KIKK and all the “Proud to be a KIKKer bumper stickers.”

I seem to remember that dopey “Matthews” used to be part of Moby and Matthews on one of those rock stations… heard he got popped for messing around with kids somehow.

At any rate, I enjoy watching Telemundo and Univision… they have some incredible eye-candy from time to time. Can’t understand a word they say but really don’t need to.

ROCK & ROLL/HOUSTON DOUBLE PING:

Imagine if one of the country music stations here proclaimed: "Anglo and Proud". LULAAC would be up in arms.

92.3 KSJO here in San Jose went to Spanish Radio on 10/30/04 after 36 years of Classic Rock...

The oldest and biggest rock station in the South Bay area (San Jose, California), KSJO, also went to a Spanish-language format recently.

My guess is that these Hispanic families have a lot of members in each household, and therefore are spending less on housing, which equals more disposable income -- for things like cars, clothes, household goods, etc.

I feel really nerdy for having laughed at this station's call letters.

But yeah, radio sucks now. While I'm in the car it's CDs, with some public radio (not NPR) thrown in.

I seldom listen to radio, either, unless its talk radio. The main music I listen to is classical, and our one Houston commercial classical channel KRTS converted to latino a couple of months ago (there is a remaining classical public radio station, but it has NPR and I do not have a strong enough stomach for that).

I think part of the problem could be the state of pop/rock music today (it sucks). There probably is more loyal listener-ship amongst the hispanics/illegals, and thus a chance to sell more products via advertising. I expect many more discriminating listeners have migrated to XM or Sirius Satellite radio (something I am considering). Most of the time, I am playing CDs and jamming to Handel, Bach and Telemann as I drive around Houston.
