Hello, all. We got slammed by Ivan on Friday. Massive flooding in the entire Pittsburgh region. I was in Pittsburgh that afternoon and the trip home, which usually takes an hour and 15 minutes, took about 3 hours because roads were flooded and exit ramps were closed on every other highway I tried. I ended up going substantially out of my way and driving over the hills through farm country to get home.

Our little town is about 7 miles from the Ohio River, far enough that we don't have water flowing down the streets (the river town where I buy my groceries looks like that right now, and we can't get there anyway because it's entirely closed to motorists), but our creek overflowed and stripped off the pavement on the road leading out of the town on the east; the road going west is closed because of slides. I don't think anyone in town actually got flooded out, however, but the entire town has no telephone service, for reasons unknown. So I've been incommunicado - can't call, can't receive calls and cannot get online! I'm in Mr. M's office in the next town, using his computer.

Apart from the lack of phone service, we're much better off than most people in this area. The electricity was out only a few hours friday; gas and water utilities are fine. Will check in whenever I can!

All you do is steam the broccoli slightly and boil the chicken. Cut chicken in bite sized pieces...layer broccoli in bottom of casserole, then chicken on top of it.

Mix other ingredients, using chicken broth or milk to thin. I make sauce thicker if I'm serving the casserole alone, thinner if serving over rice (my fave). Pour sauce over solid ingredients, cover w/ cheese, bake at 350 for 35 or 40 minutes (BWB...is that right?!) .

Sprinkle toasted almonds over each serving.

(I've also added water chestnuts to the casserole and people really liked it)
