The Hobbit Hole XV - Pass them by! Pass them by!

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

...Pass them by! Pass them by!

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

Now that I've been to the West Coast, I know what you mean about long drawn out twilights. It's a nice way to end evenings.

And yes, here on the East side it does from day to night in an hour's time. And just as quickly from night to day when the sun comes up.

Changes in lattitudes, changes in attitudes. :-)

Yes, there's very little dusk here. It just goes pretty fast from daylight to night. And the same thing in reverse in the mornings. It's dark, and I go to the bathroom to shave in the morning, and I come back out and it's full daylight.

Weather's pretty nice here though. Humid but low to mid 80's -- very summer like.

We did a scenario about a terror attack on our city and county with Tuleremia today. A release of the bacteria at the Puyallup Fair is our guess of the cause. Pretty interesting. It's nice to walk around here -- this part of Alabama is hilly and completely forested -- very much like a National Forest. Not many towns at all. Nice countryside -- bit jungly. I'm enjoying the trip so far...even though it is work.

You definitely have more time to wind down in the evenings. No argument there!

Is it wrong of me to take pleasure in the humilation of other human (sic) beings?

I don't actually *want* to be a mean person. Sometimes it just works out that way. Especially when they so completely deserve it.

Oh yeah, they do talk a bit differently around here. I think the folks are quite nice though -- but I think some of my liberal cohorts are having a lot of trouble with it. Our west coast libs are not very tolerant folks!

I'm enjoying seeing a part of the country I've not been in before - very different - and the blatant and almost universal conservatism is a nice change for me.

I'm secretly mean but I usually hide it. Sometimes the idiots get the better of me.

Why, oh why, can't I program worth beans tonight?

If it's not due tomorrow, tackle it tomorrow.

Hey! It worked the last time, right? *grin*

Yeah, up until last week, we still had 6:30 sun up. Yesterday, I rolled over at 7 and was shocked that the sun was just starting to peek through the window. For a moment I thought it was really cloudy, and then came to my senses... rain in this part of Texas at this time of year? not unless there is a hurricane in Houston!

[Julius Ceasar voice] More Wine!!!

If programmers had to be sober then Microsoft Windows would only have half the codebase it does now, and *nobody* but *nobody* would have ever thought that a talking paperclip was funny. :-)

I'm terrible about drinking water.

The closest I get is munching on ice.

Dang... and I thought it was the beer that did that. I guess switching to water wouldn't help me none. :-)
