The Hobbit Hole XV - Pass them by! Pass them by!
See our freeper.the-hobbit-hole.net home page! ^

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

...Pass them by! Pass them by!

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

Clever story! Great use of POV. And, uh, nasty imagery. Yuck. That picture's hideous too, by the way.

Hey all!

Looooong day. My sister called me at work around 5 minutes to six to tell me that Becky had Open House at school today. I was neck-deep in payrolls and couldn't leave until they got done. I asked her what time it started and she said "Six!" Well, I knew right then that I wouldn't make it.

So, I called Becky's dad to ask if he had known about it and he said he forgot to tell me when he did her homework with her last night. I asked if he could run over and go with her and he said "I can't go! I've got bowling tonight!"

And to this day he ~still~ wonders why he's an "ex".

Poor Becky was heartbroken. Today, I truly hated my job. :-(

Not working for me, at the moment. Also not getting the Hobbit Hole image. Had some hiccups the other night, too...

Little sweethearts like Becky should not *ever* be heartbroken. That was just completely wrong.

Bowling?

We share the same sentiment in the "bowling" excuse.

I cannot, for the life of me, understand ~how~ bowling takes priority over Becky's Open House. I felt guilty as hell sitting in my cubicle, even though I knew I could not leave.

She's a bit sad now, but I let her visit with my sister for a while and then we checked out the new books she got at the Book Fair today. It did a lot to help her get over it, but I know it really bugged her that we didn't go. Especially because the kids decorated the classroom and stuff.

It bugs me too since I wanted to have the chance to meet with her teacher for a quick one-on-one. I wrote a note for Becky to take to class tomorrow asking the teacher to please call me when she has a moment, so at least I can have a progress report via phone. :-)
