The Hobbit Hole XV - Pass them by! Pass them by!
See our freeper.the-hobbit-hole.net home page! ^

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

...Pass them by! Pass them by!

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

Heh! I'm GRADING homework! LOL

About halfway done. The jedis are bathing and getting ready for bed. I will read some Hardy Boys to them, then finish grading, then get everything organized for tomorrow, then get the kitchen spiffed up. I should be done in time for Steve to get home...around 10pm.

LOL!

I don't speak it either, but I've seen enough bits and pieces to be able to pick them out. Monty Python taught me enough about "i" to recognize the centurion in the opening of the Passion, saying "Go at once. Go!" = "I, igitur. I-i!"

Odd as the conjunction of those two pictures is...

Blegh, I think I'm becoming incoherent due to lateness of the hour.

I am very grateful not to have to check homework. All my friends are teaching assistants and have to check homework, help clueless students, all sorts of stuff.

"boy across the street" is one of the reasons elf-boy doesn't go to public school!

I found my HB books on my last trip home...in a box along with my HO scale American Freedom Train engine and a kit-built digital alarm clock I made in 1982...it still works...and other stuff of my youth.

My HBs all date from the '70s...some given to me, some I bought, between 1973 and 1977 or so.

Did I ever tell you about the time Matthew goofed around and just did AWFUL on a math test? I mean, this is a kid that makes 90-100% on most tests...he made a 70 or something because he was goofing off and added instead of subtracted?

He was just devastated. I took a big sticker that said "ROAD KILL" on it and slapped it on the front of the test. Made him take an alternative test over...he made a 96 on it.

He still gets a huge kick out of that Road Kill sticker...made a distressing situation kinda funny...

Oh I am so excited I just had to tell you.

I .... *finished*.... a story.

It's very short. The main char is based on doughboy so the language and such is pretty crude- but much better than comes wafting across the yard during his crazy construction projects. Anyway, I'm tickled.

a really handy latin phrasebook

Ooooh, you simply must tell me the title. I love to put such things on my whiteboard at work... it always gives management pause.

I used to have a book of Ogden Nash's humorous poetry translated into Latin. Stuff like

Some primal termite knocked on wood
And tasted it, and found it good!
And that is why your Cousin May
Fell through the parlor floor today.

I thought about setting one or two of them to music. Never got around to it, though, and lost track of the book in one of my many cross-country moves.

I'll FRmail ya, it's short so a cut-n-paste to a text editor should do it.

Its not a book per se it's just a bunch of phrases that I found on the Internet one day. But it cracks me up every time. Gimme a few moments and I'll post a bunch of them.
