Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
...Pass them by! Pass them by!
New verse:
|
Upon the hearth the fire is red, Beneath the roof there is a bed; But not yet weary are our feet, Still round the corner we may meet A sudden tree or standing stone That none have seen but we alone. Tree and flower and leaf and grass, Let them pass! Let them pass! Hill and water under sky, Pass them by! Pass them by! |
Still round the corner there may wait A new road or a secret gate, And though we pass them by today, Tomorrow we may come this way And take the hidden paths that run Towards the Moon or to the Sun. Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe, Let them go! Let them go! Sand and stone and pool and dell, Fare you well! Fare you well! |
Home is behind, the world ahead, And there are many paths to tread Through shadows to the edge of night, Until the stars are all alight. Then world behind and home ahead, Well wander back to home and bed. Mist and twilight, cloud and shade, Away shall fade! Away shall fade! Fire and lamp, and meat and bread, And then to bed! And then to bed! |

Will you be able to hear it from your house if it goes off?
How much ash fall might you expect, and is it good fertilizer?

Nope - we wouldn't hear it. We saw some of the plumes from high ground around here back in 80... but we may not know till we see it on the news.
The ash is really strange stuff. It's like flour. real light and picked up easily by the wind, and when it gets wet it turns into a paste and does not wash away or filter into the dirt beneath.. I think it has some fertilizer benefit when it is tilled in, but otherwise it is just kindof a mess.

I got the letter and sketches all together, sealed in a sturdy cardboard "document envelope" and ready to go. I'm heading to the post office in 5 minutes.
I wonder what will come of it...

Hi Fedora! I sat down the other night to try and got a headache. TOMORROW will begin the serious writing...honestly. Today I have had to do some computer updates, as we had to reboot the system and reestablish things because a worm infected our puter. Am also going through the process of saying goodbye to friends on LJ because I am shutting it down for good tonight.
I do have some ideas floating around...will need to bend your ear again...the more I think about this the more confused I become...
I think too much.

Is that bulge in the center of the crater evidence of upcoming eruption? I seem to remember reading this is a positive sign of eruptions.
My daughter is fascinated by volcanos, so I know she is going to be interested in this event.

That bulge (the lava dome) started forming shortly after the 1980 eruption, but has not grown significantly since about the 1986 eruption. Not a sign of impending doom, just the mountain rebuilding itself.

ROFL...well, you sounded kinda bored...(board?)...thought you might need some amusement...
and if you cant read anything into THAT statement, maybe you need ot head down to Khazad-dum for some employment...I hear there's a volcano with a Balrog underneath it.

good to know...I think I remembered watching a show on seismology that talked of one erupted that was preluded by a rapidly growing bulge in the side of the volcano, right before it went all to hell. Not a matter of years...WEEKS...maybe it *was* Mt St. Helens they were talking about...but it was pretty awesome to see them go through the paces of what was going on with the volcano.

LOL! Maybe you need to get your thinking down on paper :) Looking forward to hearing the new ideas. Good luck getting the worm fixed!
I'm in the second-last section of my latest article. I'm up to footnote #224--ugh. Fortunately this is the longest article in the series, so once it's out of the way the rest will be easier.
