Good for him, get him out there! You make an excellent point, with the tiny proviso that most libs don't think, they feel...

So, how did xshub make the transition? What changed him?
My dad's family had been what I call "automatic 'rats" -- they were NYC lower-middle class Jews who just registered and voted 'rat without really thinking about it. But it was my dad who, as a teenager, started reading, listening to the radio, etc., who became a conservative, and soon turned his parents around. I mean, they had the conservative values and ideals, but not the voting record, until then. He also taught his kid brother, but married to a woman from the 'burbs and living there has softened him...

he actually has been on Cspan and CNN and various other media outlets, but never on the subjects that he would really love to discuss! he goes totally berserk when the conservative pundits are not making the strongest points, and is screaming out what they should be saying. his total dream job would be a radio show. His undergrad degree was from the Maxwell School of Journalism at SU, so it isn't like he isn't qualified. he just chose a diff path.

He's one of the lucky ones. I used to work with this one woman who threw her lit cigarette near me in the crazed days of the re-re-re-re-recounts because she was so infuriated that a Jewish woman had gleefully voted for Bush.

but NYC is *full* of overgrown babies and adolescents! You're right.......I had an email waiting for me when I turned on the computer this morning from one of them.....and I'm still so angry I can't see straight.
However, I put the anger to good use and the project of cleaning Jax room which I have been putting off for days because I expected it to take me several hours was finished in 45 minutes.

xshub was converted by working as chief counsel to a conservative senator on the Judiciary committee and writing his speeches. he had to start THINKING as a conservative in order to write as one. Total conversion. and convinced me as well. we had given money to walter mondale....

Oh, thanks, tioga, you've reminded me I'm out of cookies. Off to the the more expensive of our two grocery stores, hilariously misnamed "Thrifty's" (Safeway's the other but it's too far away, another WHOLE block) for some of those lovely mint flavoured Oreos...

I've learned to laugh at them -- and remember their hissy fits and outrage to savor at the Schadenfreud Party I'll be throwing on Election Night '04. :)

I thought it was just I who thought that about our pundits! How long and often I've despondently watched our guys dance around the main points of an argument, sometimes by trying to score cheap debating points (although the Left does that a lot more), but often I wonder where the heck our guys have left their brains. Buckley really used to annoy me in that respect. So get xshub some facial surgery or whatever's telegenically necessary to get him out there verbal crushing the baddies for all to see!!

Walter "I'm gonna tax their asses off" Mondale?! *faint*
I'm sorry, xs, but I cannot imagine you as anything *but* a hardcore, fire-breathing conservative!
Me? I was pretty much literally born conservative. Even though my mom was still a DINO then, my dad took over and started early with me. On my profile page, there's a pic of him holding me (when I was a baby) up, and by that point in my short life, he had already been working on me. He once told me that when I was an infant, he used to hold me and talk to me about why we had to be in Vietnam, etc. He wasn't comfortable with baby talk and all that "goo goo" crap. :)

I love regular pretzels, and so didn't care for the one chocolate covered one I tried. And I've never heard of those peanut butter thingies, so we probably don't have them up here.

my family was blue collar workingman UNION dem (my grandfather and father worked unionizing the steel mills of Pittsburgh before i was born). Dems were the party of the LITTLE GUY according to my dad, up until the day he died, and the republicans were the party of the rich. that is the mentality i grew up in.

A college friend of mine who has to know my political preferences (she used to give me the most puzzled looks when I'd go off on my patented anti-Clinton rants before our alumnae club board meetings) used to include me on mass emails of Michael Moore's anti-American screeds that she used to send out.

-you don't have to argue when you are right. Bush keeps reframing the discussion in his speeches. The bottom drops out of their arguements. If they can frame the discussion and twist the facts they think they have won, but the logic doesn't hold up for those with a firm set of values. I just keep watch among friends for those who are really conservative but think they are dems. Then I hit 'em low and they admit they are no longer democrats. works for me. As for tv pundits the mute button is now superceded by the off button.

Speaking of SU, please thank xshub for me for Donovan McNabb crushing the Miami guys last week, as well as the 66-13 shellacking he gave the Hooricanes in Syracuse a few years ago.
