The Hobbit Hole V - Where Many Paths and Errands Meet...
ecurbh

Posted on 12/11/2003 2:07:57 PM PST by ecurbh

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Where Many Paths and Errands Meet...

The Road goes ever on and on
Down from the door where it began.
Now far ahead the Road has gone,
And I must follow, if I can,
Pursuing it with eager feet,
Until it joins some larger way
Where many paths and errands meet.
And whither then? I cannot say.

Cool collage, Hair! Really makes me feel wistful looking at it!

Oh, and good luck with the coconut!

Bilbo - sorry I didn't say "hello!" earlier, but today was very hectic at work and it's my mom's birthday so I just now managed to sneak online for a minute. So happy to see you here! :-)

300winmag - It's amazing how a one-time present can provide endless gifts to the recipient. *snif*

All- I'm only here for a quick moment. My sister Roxy is due to arrive any moment to sing "Happy Birthday!" to my mom and then it's American Idol night! Followed by My Big, Fat, Obnoxious Fiancee! *grin*

4-5 months! wow!

I will not hold my breath then!

How wet should I keep the dirt? - Being in a bucket, it won't drain... it is moderately wet. I can punch a hole in the bottom if it wants drained soil.

It isn't ON a heat vent but near one... It is sitting on a milk crate. I spose in summer I will move it outside.

Well, the "Grow it indoors" book says sandy soil, kept constantly moist, if you have any, warm partial sun is handy. :-) That would really be neat, a coconut palm from entmoot alive and well in the Pacific NW.

Entmoot 2004: There and Back Again, A Hobbit's Tale

Morning! It’s a a little chilly with heavy-ish surf and the skies are overcast. By the time I make my way upstairs Wneighbor, trini and Ruthy are outside huddled in blankets smoking. A few more stragglers wake up and we start the cartoon “Return of the King” again. Where there’s a whip, there’s a way! Since the computer (Wneighbor’s laptop is the official computer of Entmoot 2004) is available at the moment, I get online and make reservations from Kansas City to Raleigh and back for the weekend of Jan. 24th and I take the opportunity to catch up on the thread. 2J and others were keeping track of take-offs and landings. There was some speculation as to who the poster “Entmoot” is. I shed a bit of light on that: when I got to the computer this morning, it was logged on as “Entmoot” and the time was set to “PST.” Hair fessed up.

We got “Fellowship” started rather late, I think, if we’re going to watch it and “The Two Towers” (both of them are the Extended Editions) and have dinner before catching the last showing of “Return of the King” at the theater. We do have pizza lined up for lunch and I believe Corin went in search of a shot glass among other things. So…we’re watching FOTR. Bilbo has just left and Frodo has returned from the party. The sun is out! Nope, it’s back in again…looks like it’s going to be an in and out kind of day as far as the sun is concerned and it’s still windy. Those north-flying birds are having a hard time today.

Pizza….good! We had 10 pizzas for lunch after which “Two Towers” started. People are nodding off at various places in the movie. Rosie’s siblings and Suzi’s kids are shooting pool. I think Ksen and his kids did too for a while. Guess they got bored hanging with the fogies! It was the usual in and out afternoon for most folks….down to the beach and back in….out to the patio for a smoke. I was lazy and just watched the movie or got up to check the thread so I wasn’t really keeping up with who was doing what. Trini was still feeling poorly. Good thing I packed those Alka-Seltzer cold tablets because she really needed a decongestant. At some point someone (ksen?) made a run to the theater (about a 25 min. drive one way) to get tickets for “Return of the King.” Not much excitement there except I had a $20 and didn’t pay for my ticket until ksen could change it.

After TTT we had to eat up quick to make the show at 8:30. G’nad grilled hot dogs and hamburgers and SuziQ did a kind of stir-fry thing with the shrimp in that seafood seasoning stuff. It was all good, of course. We also had store-bought potato salad and a macaroni salad. It goes without saying that I ate too much.

We ended up with a three-van caravan to the theater. (Ksen’s daughter was back from the sleepover.) The g’nad family stayed at the Castle. Mrs. G’nad was staying with her little ones, g’nad and trini weren’t feeling too well and Mrs. Ksen had planned on keeping Mrs. G’nad company, I believe. Before leaving for the theater we took the obligatory group Hobbit Hole Dweller picture in front the Sam’s Entmoot banner. It was still windy and nippy outside. You could say that we got to sit together…we had one whole row (second from the top) and part of another (third from the top.) Some people got popcorn and drink. I ate way too much dinner and didn’t get a drink because I didn’t want to have to “go” in the middle of the movie. While waiting for the movie to start we (Corin, Wneighbor, Ruthy, Ramius, Hair, and ecurbh) were trying to come up with a juicy fight story to post on the thread…..something involving JenB’s lawyer. Naughty Hobbits! Seriesly, so far we’ve gotten along as well in person as we do on the thread.

The crowd was a well-behaved one even though we were there. On comparing notes after the movie, it seems that most of us had the urge to break out in Frodo of the Nine Fingers or Where There’s a Whip at various points. I believe we have our official songs of Entmoot 2004. Towards the end there , Ruthy was passing out napkins for the farewell scene at the Grey Havens. *Sniff* This is my third viewing of ROTK and I can’t believe that Pippin wore a paisley cravat thingy with a plaid vest! When we got back to the Castle, they had the Pirate Movie on with Johnny Depp and Orlando Bloom. I watched a good part of it but it was getting to be 2:00 am and I figured I’d better get to bed. The others downstairs were already in bed but not asleep yet so I didn’t disturb anyone too badly.

Lots of reminiscing about Entmoot 2004, discussions on where to have Entmoot 2005, Wneighbor's Aunt in the hospital, Wneighbor meeting Jill, Myranda, Tom, and thegrandkids at the airport, stories on the good our HH knives are doing in Bagdad....

Good info.... I think I will get some sand from the beach house and re-plant it in a larger diameter permanent pot as soon as I can find one. Shouldn't hurt it for me to move it within the next week or two into a different mix and pot.

Say, I hadn't thought to mention this before, but Rose and I are planning to travel to the U.P., probably the week of Memorial Day. We'll be going up there to finish cleaning my stuff out of my mom's house.

According to IMDB, the singer is Glenn Yarbrough. Not sure who the narrator is, but Sean Connery is not credited. It does sound like him though.
