Outraged police veteran says Canada is promoting death to him and his colleagues

An e-mail obtained by an anti-euthanasia advocate reveals that veterans of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) are being encouraged to attend euthanasia seminars.

Key Takeaways:

Canada has become a world leader in assisted suicide since legalizing it in 2016.

Medical Assistance in Dying (MAID) is now the fifth-leading cause of death in Canada.

Veterans have claimed they are being offered euthanasia when they try to obtain health care.

Now, it appears police veterans are likewise being encouraged to pursue MAID.

The Details:

Kelsi Sheren, combat veteran and CEO of Brass & Unity, recently obtained a copy of an e-mail sent to RCMP veterans promoting euthanasia. The person who sent the e-mail to Sheren remains anonymous but is a RCMP veteran.

“I served for 32 years on the West Coast and retired in 2019," the sender said. "As a Christian and a retired member of the RCMP I wanted to share this with you. I’m trying to wrap my head around this shocking email. I’m shocked it’s come to this.”

The e-mail was sent on November 20, 2025, and told RCMP veterans of the "opportunity" to attend a free seminar to learn about MAID.

Sheren wrote on her Substack:

This is a state-aligned institution normalizing death as a service to the very people they already failed to support in life. This was a [sic] information session, to 'educate' veterans who’s [sic] rates of PTSD and suicidality were already sky hight [sic]. How they can apply or use MAID[?]

This is what I’ve been talking about[;] welcome to the soft-coercive stage of Canada’s MAID regime.

The speaker for the seminar is Dr. Gordon Gubitz, a MAID assessor and clinical lead for the MAID program in Nova Scotia. He also is on the board of the Canadian Association of MAID Providers and Assessors (CAMAP).

"They didn’t invite a trauma specialist. They didn’t invite a palliative [care] expert. They didn’t invite a police mental-health advocate. They didn’t invite a mental health expert. They didn’t invite a [doctor] who looks at psychedelic assisted therapy," Sheren wrote. "They didn’t invite hope. They only invited death."

The Backstory:

Military veterans report that they have been pressured to undergo assisted suicide or euthanasia instead of receiving health care.

“We have 20 with written proof, more with audio recordings, and case managers admitting it,” Sheren said in testimony before the House of Commons Standing Committee on Veterans Affairs. “Others are too afraid to come forward — they’ve had their benefits threatened.”

And this has become a common problem for numerous Canadians. MAiD has been used as a way to save money, with doctors allegedly pressuring patients to choose assisted suicide instead of treatment. There have been reports of MAID due to poverty, lack of adequate housing, a lack of disability-friendly housing, and more.

Veterans have come forward to report being pressured to die while seeking treatment from Veterans Affairs Canada (VAC) to help with issues like PTSD, mental illness, and substance abuse. When they finally do seek help, they are told to consider simply dying instead.

Christine Gauthier, a veteran and Paralympian, was one of these veterans, and was offered death when she asked for a wheelchair ramp.

“I have a letter saying that if you’re so desperate, madam, we can offer you MAiD, medical assistance in dying,” Gauthier said. “I was like, ‘I can’t believe that you will… give me an injection to help me die, but you will not give me the tools I need to help me live.’ It was really shocking to hear that kind of comment.”

The Bottom Line:

It was already disturbing enough to know that Canada is encouraging people with suicidal ideation to die; now, it appears that there are proactive efforts to suggest MAID to at-risk populations even before they've begun to consider it.

Just think how few votes a political party would get if it came out with that policy.

People are confusing the wrongful actions of one rogue
individual in the health care system with government policy.

I am not aware of any stated government or political party policy to kill of seniors to save money. It may have crossed the minds of some people and you cannot legislate against random thoughts but as far as policy or action, no — there is no move towards this (at this time). If it ever began it would create an instant political firestorm and that political party would be finished. The Liberal Party of Canada and the governing New Democrats in BC get a large portion of their votes from (misguided) seniors. Do you suppose that would continue if seniors were told they had an expiry date? It would be like Jews voting for Hitler.
