Eugene Robinson took it an absurd step further, claiming:
"People in Washington don't seem to have a sense of how ridiculous and infuriating this is to everybody else in the country."
On behalf of tens of millions of people outside Washington, let me assure you, Gene: we're not infuriated, although many might be mildly amused by your hyperbole.

Every time a story about “demolishing the East Wing” appears, the image is of the main Executive Mansion, waht most people picture as “the White House”.
Even I, who took the tour when you could just line up and go, who has walked past it, demonstrated outside it, built a scale model of it, didn’t know the East and West Wings were added on to the original and have been revised many times.
That makes a lot more sense than worrying about the remodeling at the WH. I live in the Midwest & it doesn’t concern me a bit.
