As expected, President Donald Trump’s rebuke of the climate change hysteria in front of the pious apparatchiks at the United Nations sent the media into a tailspin, with The New York Times leading the pack.
Times climate reporters Somini Sengupta and Lisa Friedman snorted at Trump following his September 23 speech at the U.N. for alleging that the so-called “scientific consensus on global warming was created by ‘stupid people’” and having “lashed out at wind turbines, environmentalists and allies around the world while dismissing the dangers of climate change.”
Sengupta and Friedman railed that Trump’s remarks were “an extraordinary diatribe that ignored the human suffering exacted by the heat waves, wildfires and deadly floods that are aggravated by the burning of fossil fuels and, at the same time, stood at odds with the rapid expansion of renewable energy all over the world.”
JunkScience.com founder Steve Milloy blasted The Times over its self-inflicted conniption in comments to MRC Business:
"The New York Times says there is an ‘overwhelming scientific consensus’ on climate. President Trump says climate science is from ‘stupid people.’ I hope we can get together and compromise on there being a ‘stupid people consensus?’"

GRAY LADY DOWN!...............
Congrats, Mr. President!
I'm down for that struggle.

The President uses "stupid" to convey general negative connotations, but technically, the correct term is "evil people."
Herman Wouk's line in the Caine Mutiny also works for the Climate Industrial Complex,"The Navy is a master plan designed by geniuses for execution by idiots."
That’s great.
That was one of the most enjoyable part of his speech.
Climate Change is a religion for the Godless of the world. It is a point of faith to them. Trump was blaspheming their religion when he spoke before their assembled ministers.
I guess that fair...the NYT makes me nauseous. I can remember when the NYT was a respected newspaper. Now it’s little more than a newsletter for the Left.
non sequitur
They're always been liars, just like Walter Cronkite.
Free the Polar Bears! Will the hysterics at NYT ever come to their senses and look at real data? (just kidding, folks) It has been a while since we have checked in on polar ice. I’m sure you remember the hysteria of a few years ago–Arctic sea ice is melting! Al Gore predicted, in 2009, that the Arctic would be “completely ice-free” by 2014. Far from having disappeared, there are still 1.8 million square miles of ice floating in the Arctic Ocean.
The annual Arctic sea ice minimum has arrived once again, and as usual, it provides far less drama than the media headlines would suggest. According to the National Snow and Ice Data Center (NSIDC), Arctic sea ice extent bottomed out on September 10th, 2025, at 4.60 million square kilometers (1.78 million square miles).
That figure puts 2025 in a tie for 10th lowest in the satellite record, right alongside 2008 and 2010. But here’s the key point that gets lost in the breathless reporting:
- It’s been 13 years since the record low of 2012, and no new record has been set since.
- This year’s minimum is higher than the minimums of 2007, 2008, 2011, 2012, 2015, 2016, 2019, 2020, 2023, and 2024.
- And despite Al Gore’s infamous prediction of an “ice-free Arctic” by 2014, here we are with nearly 1.8 million square miles of ice still in place.
To sum up: “[T]here has been no significant downward trend in September minimum extents over the past two decades.”
Climate models are consistently wrong, as are climate predictions (not only those by Al Gore). Will there ever be accountability for the Left’s egregious errors with regard to climate? Only, I think, in the sense that most people have caught on and have tuned the hysterics out.
