I struggle with it, the English language. That’s why I never tried to learn a second language.🤣

I was HORRENDOUS in high school Latin. And the teachers cringed when I recited in French and Russian in college. I am only grateful that U of Chicago only wanted languages for research so it was reading, not speaking.

But English!!!! I love the way you can be so precise and I love the rhythm of words. I often didn’t know the words I wanted to use in a video script, but I knew the rhythm of the words and just needed to fill in the blanks.

That turned out so be incredibly useful when I spent those years researching 19th century American newspaper poetry. Rhythm was one of the things to look for when trying to identify anonymous poets.

“To Miss” was published by Henry Livingston, Jr, author of “Night Before Christmas” in the New York Magazine of Sep, 1791 under the pseudonym “R”. It also appears in Henry’s poetry manuscript book on pages 60-61, thus connecting Henry to the pseudonym “R.”
