According to the NY Times, Senate minority leader Mitch McConnell had been under observation since suffering a concussion during a fall on Wednesday. He also has a “minor rib fracture,” his office said. He’s off to rehab and rumor has it that he might never return.
Mitch McConnell could be sidelined.
A spokesman, David Popp, said that the lawmaker’s “concussion recovery is proceeding well” and that Mr. McConnell, 81, had been discharged from George Washington University Hospital, where he was taken after the accident at the Waldorf Astoria on Pennsylvania Avenue in Washington about 9 p.m. Wednesday.
“At the advice of his physician,” Mr. Popp added in a statement, “the next step will be a period of physical therapy at an inpatient rehabilitation facility before he returns home.”
D.C.. resident and radio host Chris Plante said on his radio show this morning that Mitch is in rehab and might never return to the Senate. That would be great news, but then, who replaces him?
We wish him good health and happiness, but not as a Senate leader.
Cue Seinfeld “That’s a shame”.
Hell awaits Mitch!
The Kentucky Governor must pick a member of the GOP. I hope Mitch is toast.
I want to see KY AG Daniel Cameron
“Who would replace him, Mitt Romney? “
Look at the current leadership positions under McConnell for the next Republican leader in the Senate:
John Thune (age 62) of South Dakota is the Senate Minority Whip so he would be a logical choice. Senator John Cornyn (age 71) of Texas was the previous Republican whip.
John Barrasso (age 70) of Wyoming - Chief of the Senate Republican Conference
Joni Ernst (age 52) of of Iowa - Republican Policy Committee Chairman
Shelley Capito (age 70 of Wyoming - Vice Chairman of Senate Republican Conference
Steve Daines (age 60) of Montana - Republican Senatorial Committee Chairman
Mitchie went off script and suffered the consequences.
. . .not just the elderly. I’m 61, had a fall last Friday morning, and am **still** laid up. 30 years ago, I would have just walked it off, but 5 days later, still need a walker and am still in substantial pain....
According to the US Constitution the Executive Officer/Governor can choose a replacement until the next election cycle............
The Constitution was changed with the passage of the 17th Amendment, so the Governor no longer has that replacement power of US Senators unless permitted by the State Legislature. Currently 45 of the 50 State Legislatures authorize their Governors to appoint a replacement Senator, however five States require an election to fill a Senatorial vacancy. There are also other requirements and exceptions which can be found in this Congressional Research Service document.

Cool
We can only hope we’ve seen the last of McCrooked but I’m not holding my breath
Those old geezers are hard to be rid of
When I see DC rumour my first thought was the comic books. Probably about this same in a certain way.
Yep something happened, but like all of DC they lie about it
My money's on Mizz Lyndsey. After all they both "swing" that way.
So, he did borrow Harry Reid’s exercise equipment and got a workout.
It is quite normal anymore for old people to be released to an inpatient facility. They stay a couple weeks and return home.
McConnell had polio when he was younger.
Yes his Democratic replacement thanks you for the prayers. Kentucky has a democratic governor who will replace Mcconnell until his term ends which is January 2029.
I wish I could have him deliver a message to John McCain
Yeah Rick Scott, last assignment the senate Republican election committee, which he failed miserably.
