Horrible typhus outbreaks also occurred in London tenements and other cities back in Victorian times. And centuries before that.

Medieval people were constantly plagued with body lice and fleas.

Epidemic typhus, the type normally associated with wars and concentration camps, and transmitted by body lice, requires one to be squished up with other people who have typhus-bearing lice. Yes, the lice are attracted to your body warmth, but there have to be people with body lice bearing typhus in close proximity for you to catch it. That’s why outbreaks in the 20th century occurred in prisons, concentration camps, the trenches of WWI, where people were crowded together in unsanitary conditions and unable to bathe or delouse themselves.

I can’t imagine Holland having an epidemic just because people are turning down the heat.

Cholera is mostly water-borne. That’s why we worry about outbreaks after floods. Of course you can also get it from eating food contaminated with the bacteria. Why would the Dutch lose access to clean water just because they turn down their heat?

None of this makes sense to me.

They never learn. There’s too many stupid idiots in the world including right here in the USA. The mere fact that any Democrat won anything after this disaster of Joe proves it.

Those Reynoldmeds prices are insanely high. Obviously meant for suckers. I buy for 1/10 that in U.S., no Rx required, vet supply.

Of course, you have to figure out if you have typhus first...

I get mine at the feed store. Got doxycycline and Ivermectin(I’m a horse and my owner buys it) there to get me through COVID last year, along with 5000ui Vit D, 25mg of Zinc and Emergen-C which has a lot of C but is also a multivitamin.

I don’t know how the Dutch generate their potable water but reverse osmosis and flash evaporation of seawater are safe processes for drinking water generation. Water contamination usually occurs at the water storage facilities.

Well, I guess if Naomi Wolf is correct about the €lot $hots enabling time travel, and they travel back to Moscow or Vilnius, 1812, ... and catch body lice ...

Really, this all so absurd!

So why would Dutch water storage facilities suddenly be contaminated with cholera?

Read the article. It is not established that there is cholera in Holland. The author is just jumping the gun.

Holland is a modern country with a clean water supply. Why in the world would they have a cholera outbreak?

Yes, that’s what I have been saying! It’s nuts to think there will be cholera and typhus outbreaks in Holland just because they have to turn down the heat this winter.

Vet / farm supply is great for paste form IVM and some antibiotics, but are you able to buy Doxy, HCQ, Amoxicillin or things like heart/bp meds from them? All of these sources have these drugs available in pill form. My goal is to stock up for emergencies (both for myself and my network) and to avoid interacting with the U.S. MedPharma Borg.

If there is no electricity, there is no sanitation and the country reverts back to medieval conditions with its many untreated diseases under which could be cholera (and even black death) As modern man, we have no appreciation of what energy means in maintaining a modern life style. Food will rot for lack of refrigeration, etc. That’s why it is so bloodcurdling scary that a clown like Biden can nonchalantly destroy an entire energy industry without objection from Congress. The very existence of life itself is at stake but no one seems to care. Life without energy cannot exist. Simple thermodynamics (thermo is heat) In thermodynamics we play a symphony of heat and energy flow and the effect on each other. Any way you got the picture. Biden is leading this country to certain death, Subconciously, I hope. But Congress has no excuse for not stopping him immediately in his tracks. Sorry for my verbosity. You got me all riled up.

Right now there is no reason to think either the Netherlands or the US will have no electricity or water this winter. Will electricity cost more? Yes. Will people need to turn down their thermostats? Yes. And it will likely be more costly in Holland than here.

People in Ukraine will likely suffer periods of no electricity and maybe no water, perhaps even long periods, and more will flee west because of it. The real suffering will be in Ukraine.

Yes, if we were all to lose electricity and water it would be a disaster. But there is no reason to think that will happen in the foreseeable future.

I lived in a Third World country for over a year with no electricity or running water and got along fine. But of course my little home was set up for it. Rainwater from the metal roof filled an old oil drum. Oil lamp. Etc. Tropical climate, so no need for heat. AC or even an electric fan would have been nice in the oppressive heat, but I survived okay without them.

I’m rather glad of it, because I learned The Joy of Water. During monsoon season, no worries. During the dry season, a storm would occasionally pass over at night, usually in the wee hours, just as the oil drum was nearly drained and I feared I’d run out of lovely clean rainwater. All the other women would dash outdoors with every pot, pan, jar they had to collect water in the downpour, I along with them, and we would all be grinning ear to ear, calling happily to each other, absolutely full of pure joy that we were getting an abundance of precious clean water. I loved the Sisterhood of Water, and so glad I got experience the Joy of Water. It was a very special, very human, and somehow very feminine thing. It’s true we don’t appreciate these simple things.

I spent some months in winter (plus part of summer and the autumn before) in a war-torn country with no power or water, and it was no fun. The snow was deep and it was terribly cold. I fetched drinking water from a clean cold spring, flushing, washing and bathing water from a nearby hot sulphur spring. There was a little tile woodstove, but baddie soldiers kept stealing the firewood, so a struggle to keep warm. Some “one-stick” nights I piled all my clothes on top of myself. I survived, but then I was young and healthy. The elderly and infirm can easily die without help. Yes, I helped.

There was no cholera, no typhus, not even in the towns.

I am not worried about losing water and power this winter. Higher bills, yes. There is no indication we are all doomed to a winter of no power or water this winter, here or in the Netherlands. I’m puzzled as to why you think we are.

I bet you would talk differently if that cosy home of yours was located in in an area where there are cold winters and all facilities are electricity dependent.

Like in concentration camps.

Read the rest of that post. I did spend most of a winter in an area where there are cold winters and all facilities are electricity dependent — yes, with no electricity or running water, because that’s what invading armies do: cut both off. If it’s a civil war and they hate the people who live there, it stays off for a very long time.

Yes, I said concentration camps. There is no reason to think we will have them here or in Holland this winter. Unless one is a paranoid nutter.
