The Libertarian Party's state affiliates in New Mexico and Virginia have broken away amid ideological and procedural turmoil—and the Virginia branch may have dissolved entirely.

Well, it's the sissy libertarian party. The national party probably prefers panties, while the breakaway faction prefers thongs. Other than that, who knows what is important to them.

It is what libertarians do. They are more interested in ideological purity than they are with the responsibility of actually governing.

Just my observation from seeing the LP's Facebook and Twitter posts over the past couple years....

Prior to the last LP convention, whoever was running the social media pages was very big into the rainbow stuff. Over the past couple months tho, it looks as if Ron Paul was running the social media pages. It has generally been messaging that would be favorable to most people on Free Republic. Really hammering big government, being pro gun, and against fiscal irresponsibility.

I'm sure the current messaging has torqued off LPs that are run by the rainbow folks.

It is worse than that. I can imagine a role for an ideologically pure party as a check on the major parties, and as a voice for an under-represented viewpoint.

But the Libertarian Party was MIA during COVID, when an ideologically pure voice against lockdowns and masking was called for. Unbelievably, a lot of the party leadership was afraid to tackle these issues, which represent what Libertarians were warning us about for years: Government arbitrarily abusing its power to strike down the most basic of freedoms.

article: "the Virginia branch may have dissolved entirely"

This is GREAT news. The losertarian party has been responsible for more many, many Democrat wins in Virginia. Oliver North would have been a Senator if it weren't for the losertarians.

They have no such responsibility since they win nothing.

However I find it useful for there to be parties that are not obsessed with Realpolitik and how they can hide what they plan to do from the sheep behind a fake platform they have no intention of ever implementing and a bunch of empty promises. Maybe someday a proper third party that puts forth a set of principles that they actually believe in will get enough support that they become electorally viable. That was, after all, how the Republican party rose and maybe someday a proper conservative successor to it will come along. Until then we get just the uniparty of demopublicans and republicrats laughing at us every election.

The libertarian party is one-issue, drugs. The democrats beat them on that already.

They will never be anything but spoilers and they have done plenty of that. The green party woke up and joined the rats and pushed their agenda from within.

Fiscally Conservative.
Socially Liberal.

Personally, in over 40 years of watching the Libertarians, I can think of precious few occasions when they placed any importance at all on being Fiscally Conservative. They place massive emphasis on that Socially Liberal part.

And the Deep State? The fact that we now live under tyranny? Our oppressive government runs roughshod over all of our rights? Have the Libertarians noticed? It’s not at all clear to me that they do. But they love that gay stuff and the drugs. Whoo-Hoo! Let’s party!!

Frankly.....good. Anybody who is libertarian minded needs to take one look at what the corrupt federal agencies are doing and make his vote count by voting for the MAGA Republican candidate rather than wasting his vote on a Libertarian Party candidate who has no hope of winning.

This article was all about process and not about what the ideological issues are, if any.

Where is the beef?

;-)

Some libertarians object to stop signs. Others object to immigration controls. They can’t agree on how much government regulation is necessary. Personally, if I want to make a political statement and reject the Dems and the RINOs, I would vote for the Constitution or Patriot parties. The Libertarians lack coherence.

I had more than a few arguments with Harry Browne. He was the high water mark for that 🤡 clown show.

The Virginia ones leaving the party are mad because the new Mises Caucus that took over the party are now anti-woke. Doherty is part of the old-guard as well that never wanted to fight. The Mises Caucus have potential as allies at least on single issues.
