The main purpose of the GOP since the Bush League took over in 1989 has been to block the citizens from stopping the Bush Plan for North Mexico (aka USA).
Daddy Bush knew we would never vote to give up our sovereignty and subsume our country to the UN in a New World Order, so they set about to import people who would.

There is good reason for the moniker, RINO, and the assertions by some of two parties acting as a "uniparty." Because it is so often true.
Years ago, on a BBC HardTalk episode, an ex-apparactchik of the Clement Atlee period in the UK was asked a hard question, citing the stat that in that time there was 26 percent unemployment.
The Lefty politician said, "yes, but it was wonderful because we were in charge." This captures for me today's Democrats but also the RINOs and neocons, who are not truly conservative.
