Poor Jobs Report Sparks Debate [semi-satire]

The Labor Department's April employment report showed unemployment ticking up. This contradicted expert expectations that the Biden stimulus spending would generate a million more jobs. Only 266,000 jobs were created during the month.

President Biden blamed former President Trump, saying that "the attack on the Capitol that he ordered his followers to carry out has made a lot of people too scared to take a job. They fear that a right-wing mob may swarm their place of employment and expose them to the same dangers that faced members of Congress on January 6th."

Chamber of Commerce executive vice president and chief policy officer Neil Bradley disagreed, calling the President's logic "unpersuasive. A more tangible factor is the fact that the government's unemployment compensation package exceeds the wages available for many jobs. Given the choice of having to endure a pay cut if they take a job, many are opting to remain unemployed."

Biden dismissed the Chamber's view as "malarkey. My Dad always told me,'Joey, it's not just about the paycheck. It's also about the dignity of having a useful place in the community.' No self-respecting adult would give up that place just to live off the federal teat."

Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-Minn), backer of a $2,000 per month federal payment to every person, labeled Biden's perspective "discredited 'white thinking.' Work is for suckers. The government has the power to create as much money as is needed to let everyone enjoy a decent standard of living without having to submit to wage-slavery to get it. What we need is for policymakers to have the courage to boost America up into a totally different way of living." Fifty-seven fellow Congresspersons have co-sponsored Omar's bill to award these monthly payments.

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif) rejected the idea that increased unemployment is a bad thing. "As I have been saying for years, unemployment compensation is a greater stimulator of the economy than anything else," she asserted. "We shouldn't bemoan an uptick in unemployment. The more people who are unemployed, the faster our economy will grow. What we need to do right now is pass more spending bills. If we can break the link between work and income we will finally achieve liberty from wage-slavery."

Press Secretary Jen Psaki hastened to clarify the President's statement, saying "he was just reminiscing about stuff his Dad told him seventy years ago. In no way did he mean to imply that people living on welfare are not self-respecting just because they have adapted to a lifestyle pioneered in America by President Johnson's War on Poverty. This money isn't just handed out randomly. Recipients have to do some things to qualify. One of the most important of these things is giving birth to the next generation of Democrat voters. Those who pay the taxes should be grateful that the price for keeping the fascist Republicans from destroying our democracy is so low."

Satire? Possibly, but I've been fooled before...

Thanks, John, for another historic column.

I know it’s satire...

But the real issue is that economics is not unlike meteorology (climate change), or medicine/biology (Covid) today...

You have political buffoons and bureaucrats mixing what may be a little truth and problem with a whole lot of ideology and personal/self benefit. Their solutions are often a bigger problem than the so called problem, examples: CO2 limits, gun control, Covid shut down and Cuomo with his old folk homes mandating they take back positive cases, making marijuana illegal, gag orders for pharmacists to recommend lower cost alternatives (Trump did away with that BS thank God)...

Most of the policies they propose are written by small interest groups (like Obama care) while they pretend it’s legislation or regulation in the best interest of the nation and masses. These are literally policies that have an ulterior motive, almost always about someone making billions, example: the ban on older refrigerants made DuPont and Honeywell billions and they used the Ozone hole as the fake justification. What ever happened to the Ozone hole? Hahahaha Yeah, it’s today in the same place where acid rain, the coming ice age, lack of potable water, save the whales, save the polar bears, save the spotted owl, many recycling programs and DDT ban went - all BS causes.

Of course the DOJ is powerless as is the media because they are partial, they are part of the game!

Can it be fixed?

Or will the US just go under in a sea of stupidity, with make belief causes justifying corporate-government collusion and an ever expanse of a bureaucracy promising physical and economic security for a little bit of freedom and liberty?

BTW- what is the $9,000,000,000 a year TSA doing for us?

But no worries, just like 9-11 will live with us forever in the forms of a DHS, TSA, Patriot Act, so will Covid with vaccination passports and other government regulations and massive spending... Will the people learn? Nope- Not so far. Appeal a bit to their fear, and they will take off the shoes, empty their bags, and walk through a body scanner without probable cause or a warrant, and they will do so without complaint or concern.

America is a compliant folk today. They are a lot like the Euros. Maybe it’s public schools, immigration, the media, or all of them... but they do as they are told and think themselves better for it. The once American individualistic, rugged, independent, pious, and freedom loving people are gone. Today Americans are all fighting over how to also be recognized as a special protected group, how to get a government stimulus check, how to fit into some group, and how to pretend that somehow our values are not derived from a Christian value system. Modern Americans are similar to their Euro counterparts, they look towards the nanny state to replace family and a church which today are weak. The rise of socialist systems corresponds to the decay of society, i.e. it provides the services once provided by the church, community or family. Even today, where families, community, and the church is strong, how much “policing” do you need? Now many state subsidized old folks homes do you need? How many county women’s shelters do you need?...
