Covid-19 and the Erosion of Civic Trust
Public Discourse ^ | December 15, 2020 | Aaron Rothstein

... This distrust runs both ways. Pew polls demonstrate a shockingly low level of faith in our government—only 17 percent of Americans today say they trust the government in Washington to do what is right. Public trust in our representatives was not always thus. In 1958, around 75 percent of Americans trusted the federal government to do the right thing almost always or most of the time. The reticence of our political elite to share information with us is not necessarily the cause of such a downward trend, but it both exacerbates it and points to a certain disconnect between our fellow citizens and those we trust to craft policy. One exception stands out: according to the Pew polls, trust in medical science and scientists has grown since the pandemic began. However, a closer look at the data tells a more troubling story. Burgeoning differences along partisan lines exist: among Democrats, 53 percent have a great deal of confidence in medical scientists to act in the public interest, while 37 percent responded in this way in January 2019. Among Republicans, only 31 percent express a great deal of confidence in medical scientists; 32 percent responded in this way in January 2019....

Wait, do I have this right?

Republicans maintained their healthy skepticism toward medical "experts" from pre 'rona days to now and Demonrats became less skeptical?

So, I guess what Demonrats are saying is that they trusted "experts" less over a year ago because the experts are not totalitarian enough for their tastes.

The well of our civic institutions had been thoroughly and truly poisoned. The Chicom flu + this fraudulent election = zero trust * no consent of the governed. That adds up to American CW II. KTF

These vaccines are called “To Serve Man!” Right? If you can’t trust Bill Gates and Uncle Joe, who can you trust?

Covid 19 should be named the Communist virus, because it turns most Democrats into Communists.

Just two years ago if someone said that the 9/11 attack was conducted by our own government by swapping out the autopilot computers with fully remote control computers (which is 100% possible btw) I would have thought they were insane

Nowadays after seeing them destroy the entire civilization of the world based on irrational insane fear of a virus that can lead to pneumonia, I would think they might be on to something

No one trusts the government. The system is totally and thoroughly corrupt. We live in a kleptocracy.

I have to admit I’ve never heard of the word kakistocracy before but it fits perfectly.

It won’t be much of a problem integrating this new word into my posts and general musings. :)

Hell, I trust about 0.0001% of people.

I prefer the term Idiocracy, since there’s a funny movie with that title and people relate to the premise.

Diversity only benefits a place when there is common purpose. Churches and the military are good examples.
Otherwise, diversity only increases protest marches and television watching.

There is no more civic trust. It’s been in constant decline but once even the most ignorant fool has to accept there are two sets of laws, it’s all gone.

Just remember that the government distrusts and dislikes you more, than you harbor those sentiments toward them.

And too, the government is NEVER wrong. Ever.
