Conservatives conserve what's good.
God's gift of life is good.
What other basic principles would underpin a conservative environmentalism?
Well Ducks Unlimited, most any reasonable hunter or farmer could tell you.
Stewards of their own land.
Clean air - clean water - clean land
Control pollution, the goal being to protect people, not the planet. People are more important than the planet, not vice versa.
The EPA was originally call the PCA - Pollution Control Agency. Started in Nixon administration.
Why? So I won’t be at the mercy of monopolist and utility companies cronied with both local and federal govt jacking up prices ostensibly to save us with their control freak rationing of power:
Every home should produce a fraction of its own energy, harvest water, grow food, etc that those there are not beholden to others for sustenance.
Nuclear power, coal-to-gas conversion, hydro power, hydrogen.
A credo I’ve lived as a lifetime angler: Leave it a little nicer than how you found it. It requires little to no effort.

Bingo !! Spot on !!!
The PCA/EPA created by the great Republican Richard Nixon was there to clean up our messes. Clean up pollution.
But.... as with everything the Left gets into...it morphs into lunacy. Climate change. Remember protecting the desert rat in California? It’s a rat for heaven’s sake !!! It has rabies.
Wetlands? Every square inch is now a wetland so no one can use it.
I could go on and on.
The natural world is a resource to be wisely stewarded, not a deity to be worshipped nor a museum to be left utterly untouched.
Science/evidence based programs to actually keep the environment clean. Like picking up trash, enforcing the laws to prevent toxic chemicals from being dumped into waterways, etc.
Surrender monkey syndrome...
“The natural world is a resource to be wisely stewarded, not a deity to be worshipped nor a museum to be left utterly untouched.”
what else needs to be said about stewardship?
We have a hot water solar system that heats our pool and preheats all the water before it goes into our hot water heater. The hot water runs under the kitchen floor and the floor of our kitchen, making the cold winters in western NY more comfortable. We have passive solar in the form of big windows facing south. We heat our home with a wood stove stoked with wood harvested on our own land. It saves us money without earth unfriendly solar panels. It is a small part of our overall prepping.
Totally agree.
Responsible management of natural resources. Technological advances that promote cleaner air and water. More efficient production and use of energy, making use of a diversity of resources. Would government have a role? Yes. I would favor penalties for those who wantonly trash the environment. I would favor government being involved in conserving natural areas. That is being done now, but it needs to be scaled back into some sane limits, ideally to balance conservation and human use. Individuals need to learn to pick up after themselves — garbage, dog doo, etc. Headed over to Illinois one day, I saw a sign on the tollway that reminded people how important it was not to litter. Then I made it a point to look at all of the trash strewn along the highways and streets all the way to my destination.
I think a conservative environmentalism would be driven from the bottom up, and be realized by free-market solutions, just as most progress has been accomplished. No more government boneheads telling us what light bulbs to buy or planning to wean us off petroleum. No more big-money government boondoggles. Educate people to be more responsible, provide products and services that make their lives and environment better, and see what happens.
From the Bible...
“As each has received a gift, use it to serve one another, as good stewards of God’s varied graces”
Which I interpret as “use it but don’t abuse it”. Be good responsible stewards of God’s creation.
Take what you need. Use what you take. Don’t waste things. Clean up the area around you.
I find even some conservatives misunderstand this: the issue is not whether you want to preserve the environment, the issue is government control vs personal free choice.
