On Tuesday night, President Donald Trump took part in a town hall event produced by ABC News 20/20 program called The President and the People, which featured undecided voters from across the commonwealth of Pennsylvania asking the president questions.
Towards the end of the 90-minute special, a young woman rose from the audience to ask her question and the way Pres. Trump answered her destroys any narrative the Left could conjure that calls him uncaring or a racist.
Host George Stephanopoulos introduced her this way: The next one comes Flora [sic] Cruceta. Shes from Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. She has not voted before because she just became a citizen. Before Flor could begin, Pres. Trump praised her becoming a citizen, with Oh, very good.
But several times while asking her question, Flor was forced to stop speaking because she was sobbing so hard.
She started, Thank you so much. Hi, Mr. President and Mr. George. My name is Flora [sic] Cruceta . Im sorry if I cant hold my hold my tears She began to sob here.
A second time, the President noted her new citizenship, I love I love what you just did.
She continued, I came in 2006 with my mom from Dominican Republic sorry. Her sobbing became heavier at the mention of her mother.
Pres. Trumps response was heartfelt and compassionate. Thats all right. And just take your time, thats fine. He turned towards Stephanopoulos, George has plenty of time, I hope, right? The host agreed that he did. The President then asked Flor if she said her mom had had COVID, but gets no response.
She continued:
We come from Dominican Republic in 2006 to live our American dream. But she forgot how to take care of herself and she died last month..Im sorry.
She sobbed and wiped away tears, before apologizing. The President, visibly moved, replied: Terrible. And thats OK. Its OK.
She then got back to her mothers story:
She had breast cancer but it made metastases on her brain, bone, and lungs and she passed on the 19th. One of her biggest dreams was to become a citizen to vote, and she did. She did, 10 days before she died. And I did it too. She pushed me so hard to do it and I did it this past 28th.
Im here because of her. She was supposed to be here and ask you and thank you for this if they should take during this epidemic, you made people closer. We lost our jobs but we learned how to love our family. So Im saying that from her.
Pres. Trump briefly acknowledge her moms message.
She went on to ask the question her mother was supposed to ask:
Her question for you was because she write this question what will you do for our immigration system? What will you change to make more people, like me and like her, to become citizens and vote?
Ill just touch on a few parts of his answer, but you can watch the full answer in the video.
Pres. Trump said, in part:
So we are doing something with immigration that I think is going to be very strong because we want people to come into our country, people like you and like your mother.
[ ]
[W]e want people to come into our country. We want them to come in a lot of people but we want them to come in through a legal system. Through a system that they love our country. They work to come into our country.
Even in the middle of an answer to a policy question, though, a man whos been vilified by the mainstream media as a bigot and cold-hearted continued to comfort the grieving daughter:
I mean as far as your situation with your mother, that is just devastating because I can imagine how you feel and it sounds like a great woman .
She gave us a great daughter, a great child, what shes done with you, the way you are. The love that you have for your mother, I can see that, its hard.
A brief note about the video below: ABC News politics reporter Meg Cunningham wrote in a tweet that she spoke on the phone with Flor after the event and confirmed that Flors mother passed away from breast cancer, not COVID-19. If Id been asked to field the same question Pres. Trump was, Im sure I would have made the same, honest mistake. Flor did bring up the Chinese virus, and her sobbing made the question difficult to understand.
You can watch the full interaction between Flora and Pres. Trump in the video below:
Heartbreaking. Everyone can feel this womans pain, and her love for her family. Campaigns rarely see a moment like this. pic.twitter.com/WYo85oq33W

100% of American on welfare vote democrat.
I will take the 90% over 100%.
I was a democrat in my early 20’s as an immigrant, adored JFK and liked LBJ over Goldwater who said “Extremism in the defense of liberty is no vice.” How dumb was that politically?
I voted republican at age 32 when I was eligible to vote, and voted republican in next 12 presidential elections. 2020 will be my 13th republican presidential vote. My cousin’s son ran for congress as a republican. He was born in US but his dad immigrated here.
Democrats win over new immigrants by presenting an aura of “inclusivity”. Republican do a poor job of explaining why their party is better suited if you area a hard working and ambitious immigrant and not one here to collect welfare checks. I figured that out myself.
Absolutely and I've been saying it for years. I cannot STAND the standard canned "conservative" response about how we love immigration as long as it's "legal". Well, what's legal? Stroke of the pen, law of the land? This is not 1890. We don't need millions of laborers. It is far past time we start picking and choosing who brings something of value to US, not just what we hand over to THEM!
If legal immigrants were voting Republican in the 90% range then all immigration would be halted and stopped.
Try running for office on a no-immigration platform.
See how far you get expressing what most people are to afraid to express.
That shows how out of touch with main street America most GOPers really are.
Slashing LEGAL immigration would be WILDLY popular. Most workers realize the only point to LEGAL immigration is to collect Democrat voters and to reduce the prevailing wages of all workers. There is no other point to it. LEGAL immigration is a BURDEN that the middle class is forced to carry for the virtue signalers of the world
Slashing LEGAL immigration would be WILDLY popular.
I hope you are right, but I think it is wishful thinking.
You are assuming most people have common sense - but they dont.
Most people understand and see what LEGAL immigration does to society and wages. It is the “gated” community virtue signalers that get the cheap labor and the fun of well, being so “virtuous”.
If most people understood that legal immigration is bad for them, then it would have ended a long time ago.
The truth is that most people DO NOT understand - the cheap labor lobby has used the fake news to brainwash them.
Nobody who promises to stop immigration can get elected, because too many of the voters have been brainwashed.
The Deep State does this to us and we the people hate it. They are out of control. It was the whole point of electing Trump.
Nobody who promises to stop immigration
Nobody but Trump made that promise!!! The rest are deep state actors.
The Deep State does this to us and we the people hate it.
Well, if we the people hate it, this is our big chance to prove it by giving President Trump a landslide, and big coattails.
He cant drain the swamp if hes always on the verge of being impeached.
Wow, my Canadia stepmom, two stepsisters and Honduran brother-in-law got here just in time......
Wow, maybe they can go back?
Why should they, they’re citizens now you bigoted hick
TI guess you are not familiar with our current immigration system.
All most all new immigrants are sponsored by a relative. There are no minimum qualifications required with respect to skills, wealth or basic education. So we are importing basically people who immediately need welfare. So like their American counter-parts who depend on welfare, the new immigrants vote democrat. My own relative sponsored a senior parent, who needed immediate welfare and received it. After a short waiting period, the senior immigrant began receiving $800 monthly checks from Social Security, without ever having paid a dime in taxes.
What is really odd, is that the sponsoring relative has no responsibility to support the immigrant. None, zip, nada.
PDJT has the right idea of changing the system to merit based only system.
My own immigrant status was based on my employer sponsorship based on my advanced engineering degrees and research in the field my employer business was operating. The relative based system came later.
