Quartermaster The title, or rate in the Navy has a different meaning than in the Army. A Navy QM assists on the bridge of a vessel, and an Army quartermaster is in charge of supplies, stores, and logistics.
The chief quartermaster and usually the Executive Officer are the ones who plot the courses from port to port or staging area. The others kept made sure during their watches that they were on course and safe.
At least that was the way it was done in the old navy.
I’m sure that it is different with today’s hi tech navy..
