Dear friend,
In a class, fifty-some years ago the topic of a tribe that believed that being photographed steals ‘part of your soul’ was broached. We had a good laugh and it became a running joke for the semester.
Today, my opinion has flipped 180 degrees; I think they were on to something.
There can be a part of you in a powerful photograph.
What it is, I do not know. But it is there.
Adding to that, I was shot in the face RVN 1969, so I carry a lot of baggage looking at that photo. (NOTE: I firmly believe the bullet first struck the earth before hitting me. The back of my head is still here and working well.)
Because we live in a safe and comfortable country, few of us have experienced such violence. Most have only experienced the fake/synthetic violence of TV-movies.
Ever see a movie where after the shoot out, the character exits the hospital with a permanent tracheostomy tube and colostomy bag...?
Because we all have different histories, a powerful photo is like a Rorschach image; we see different things.
About this photo and others like it? Don’t know.
It does not appear to diminish the officers?
I see “Locate, close with and destroy the enemy by fire and maneuver and repel the enemy assault by fire and close combat. “
I see bravery, fortitude, strength.
And looking makes my hands sweat, HR up...
No real answer about the photo, just my opinion.
Interesting and good first person post.
Photos can and do bring up memories, or better said pictures of our own experiences which flash through our minds.... because what we see as we walk through life we see through our brains.

How were these two able to get up and move after being shot in the head and face? Did the perp use a low power gun like a 22?

With such a shot it is likely her tongue was damaged, in which case her ability to speak could very well be compromised. But, she was able to radio in for assistance, so hopefully any damage is not so serious that her speech is affected. She showed great presence of mind, and acted professionally in the highest tradition of law enforcement.

Disagree with you dp, for two reasons:
1. It is far too easy to dehumanize law enforcement by just reporting that these “disgruntled yutes” ambushed “the man” and don’t show the results.
Well I want every swinging Ricardo to see the results.
2. I also want everyone to see the resolve, training, and determination that these law enforcement warriors have - moving, triage and staying I in the fight. They are professionals who went to work expecting NOTHING NORMAL because this profession doesn’t have a “normal” day.
So everyone look close.
Look at their faces and look at their resolve to fight for their lives because of what they do.
And trust me when I tell you that I know what I’m talking about.

The cops need to kill the little bastard when and where they find him. That way a Socialist DA to kill again. I read that they will recover. If true, it wasn’t from lack of trying he did not kill them. When and where they catch him, they need to make sure he is dead. in spite of what the media and Blacks will say, this is not murder, it is performing a public service.

yes...in the frame when the shooter is in a crouch with bended knees it's easy to see the legs are small and out of proportion to the upper body. A little person...should be easy to find.
