The CDC Accidentally Admits Cloth Masks Are Not Effective

CDC

Cloth masks that are used to slow the spread of COVID-19 offer little protection against wildfire smoke. They do not catch small particles found in wildfire smoke that can harm your health. Limit your time outside when it’s smoky. Learn how you can protect yourself from wildfire smoke: https://bit.ly/3kSMjl9.

Another quick Google search will tell us that the Wuhan Virus is .12 microns in size, about a quarter in size of the smoke and fire debris particulate. Even if we factor for the “respiratory droplets” that are allegedly to blame for the spread of coronavirus, those droplets are as small as .5 microns, or as small or smaller than smoke and fire debris particulate. These factors and figures aren’t hidden in some CDC vault that only their scientists are capable of accessing. Yet another quick Google search will show these figures within seconds.

The CDC cannot, on one hand, demand we wear masks because of the prevention of the spread of a disease (or droplets containing the disease) and then tell us that those same masks are ineffective in stopping particles that are bigger than the disease we are trying to prevent.

It’s funny I hate masks and would absolutely refuse to wear one except I am forced to in stores here in California and I do want to protect my little store friends That being said I coined yesterday “dystopia day “ because there was so much smoke in the bay area we were in the 250s to 300s for 50 miles around the bay and I actually had to wear an N 95 mask with a fneck gator since the straps broken ( saved it from 2018 fires 🔥) and that’s the only time I ever wear masks and I wear an N 95 is when there’s terrible smoke in the air

They are effective in keeping the public submissive and training us to be good sheep, so they can pull the wool over our eyes and steal the election.

I hate to say it...but this fact was laid out in March in Germany, where various masks were stamped as being marginal to ineffective. No shock. You could go and put toilet paper on two strings, and just around all day with that, and it serves the same purpose.

Just STOP. The size of the virus particles has little to do with mask effectiveness. What matters is the size of the droplets you are exhaling and reduction not elimination of released virus to the air.

How easy is it for you to sift concrete that’s not wet vs when it’s wet?

Smoke is a different situation because a cloth mask isn’t enough of a seal and you’re trying to avoid breathing it in. Parts per million is going to be much higher than virus escaping the mask in your moist breath

I think some folks here are far too invested in their emotional hatred of masks or mandates to work through how they work and why they are recommended for slowing covid transmission when social distancing is difficult.

Again, the virus doesn't travel by itself. Yes, viruses are tiny. But without a liquid medium, the proteins denature and the virus becomes unable to infect. The primary carrier for SARS-CoV-2 are respiratory droplets, which are 5 μm to 2000 µm. Masks DO reduce the volume and range of respiratory droplets expelled from humans as demonstrated experimentally here:

I am against government mask mandates, but masks ARE effective in reducing the risk of transmission of SARS-CoV-2 in certain circumstances. Specifically, while indoors in a public place or while in a crowd (not that anyone should be in a crowd right now). That's also why social distancing recommendations call for 6 feet of separation: respiratory droplets are heavy enough that they fall to the ground quickly, typically in under 6 feet.

Masks do less than covering your cough or sneeze with a kleenex and the. discarding it. Basic manners are all you need. The bonus is if you cover with a kleenex and discard you are not wearing a germ saturated snot rag all day

And am I supposed to cover my face with a fresh Kleenex for every breath taken, even word spoken, and even while my hands are full?

Anything that covers your nose and mouth and prevents or lessens the spread of your breath onto other people is effective.

It is not a filter to protect the wearer. It is a filter to protect others.

I would sure like to see how far the droplets go when you cough or sneeze into a tissue or into your shoulder for comparison.

The mask doesn’t protect you. It partially protects the people around you

Trying to filter out a virus with a mask is like trying to keep mosquitoes out of your house with a chain link fence.

The problem with a tissue is that you a) don’t always have one available while you’re out in public and suddenly need to cough or sneeze b) can’t realistically walk around with a tissue in front of your face while talking and breathing (both of which produce respiratory droplets), c) can’t use a tissue if your hands are in use carrying something, and d) a simple tissue will definitely not do as well reducing the volume and range of respiratory droplets as a multi-layer woven mask strapped to your face.

Would it be better than nothing? I would assume so, yes. But is it practical to walk through the grocery store with a box of Kleenex pulling out fresh ones for every breath, every word spoken, every cough, every sneeze, no matter what else you’re doing or carrying? I don’t think that’s realistic. Wearing a properly made, properly worn disposable mask and throwing it away after the grocery store trip is complete is vastly more realistic and effective.
