Wait until they hear the ending drums on Peter Gabriel’s “The Rhythm of the Heat”
Trying to rap my head around Phil Collins being considered “Old Music”.... :-)
I grew up on Collins and 80’s pop Genesis. Good stuff, but years later, when I bought their greatest hits, I leaned that the Gabriel era was even better and that Phil Collins is a very underrated drummer.
Way back in the mid-90’s I did some contract work for Microsoft. I was the Systems Engineer of The Microsoft Home, responsible for the maintenance and upgrades for a prototype test environment of the Advanced Prototyping Team. This 2500 square foot area was situated on the Microsoft campus in a nondescript building and had no signage or advertising.
It was designed to emulate a “typical” upper scale family home, except that it had about three million dollars of computers and electronics that hosted scenarios for future technologies.
It also had one of the most impressive sound systems I’ve ever had the pleasure to sample. 3600 watts that could be shuttled anywhere throughout the home using a remote control. And a home-built jukebox that provided a Pandora-like experience - years before that service existed.
Among my duties was a morning ritual where I restarted all of the gear and brought it online, in anticipation of the various executive level tours that took place there.
One of my favorite tunes to check out the audio system was Collin’s “In The Air Tonight”. Everybody has heard the song a thousand times over the years, but you can’t really appreciate the nuances of the audio until you’ve heard it on a really good system.
What a great way to start the morning!

there are alot of these videos on you tube showing these reactions to old songs...check out these 2 dudes hearing WAR PIGS by Black Sabbath for the first time....they def get into it...awesome.
Opposite reaction here: That song was in the air every night when i was growing up and I think I became allergic to it.
I didn’t think it was even possible to hear that song for the first time — but through these kids I felt like I was hearing for the first time and their experience really made me appreciate it.
So basically those kids schooled me.
Thanks for sharing. I am just glad to see they are sampling some other music styles.
Phil’s drums in Brand X reminded me a lot of Billy Cobham. If you get a chance check out the Spectrum album (Tommy Bolin on Guitar, Jan Hammer on keyboards, Ron Carter on bass. Awesome album.
Actually the first tune on "A Trick of the Tail", "Dance on a Volcano", told you they'd be just fine.
And Gabriel was fine without them, as his first album showed (w/ Solsbury Hill)
Collins and Peter Cetera both suffer the same thing. Both are better known for sappy 80s ballads, but my god, Cetera could play a mean bass, on those early Chicago albums.

There are bunch of ‘[insert unlikely demographic here] reacts to [insert classic rock song here] all over youtube. Occasionally when bored I’ll watch a young black person discover Dark Side of the Moon or something similar.
That’s one of my favorite album’s by Genesis.
Nolifeshaq was one of the first “reaction” video guys; his reaction to Stevie Ray Vaughn is pretty good.
His reaction videos are a hoot as that cat really gets into the music.
That kid on the left, hahaha.
