Springfield Armory Hellcat Gun Review
Am Shooting Journal ^ | 10/1/2019 | C Cocole

Most CCW full size 9mm pistols carries 15 + 1 in the pipe, which has become the norm. Springfield Armory has come out with the Hellcat pistol. This pistol is considered to be the smallest compact with the highest capacity ever.
With 11+1 in the chamber, this CCW pistol is not just a rinky dink pocket gun. Hellcat also comes in 13+1 extended magazine as well.

Hellcat Sights
Another thing that you’ll see on this piece of micro-compact 9mm, is that the slide is cut for 2 micro red-dot. The 4 MOA Red dot aligsn with the iron sights. The rear sight sports a deep "U" notch which makes sight alignment easy. The front sight has a high visibility tritium lamp with yellow/green ring for quick acquisition during day and limited lighting.

Ergonomics
One of the first thing about shooting pocket size guns is that its usually not comfortable. Shots are usually snappy, with the gun wanting to jump out the hand. With the Springfield Hellcat ergonomic design, the shooting is comfortable according to those that have test fire. Springfield design the polymer frame with a high beavertail that protects the shooter's hand and negates the muzzle flip. Read the rest of Springfield Hellcat review.

It says “move over, SIG P365”, but it never actually compares them. Is this one any more compact? Doesn’t appear to be.

While I haven’t seen this particular Springfield pistol I can say that I’ve been shooting 2 others for around 5 years. (XD and XDS) both in .45. They function flawlessly with any ammunition I feed them.

The XDS is my EDC choice.

Plus the grip safety on the XDs is not on the new one.

“the grip safety on the XDs is not on the new one.”

Interesting. I have an older model. Got it barely used, in the box, with all the gear, and a spare magazine. Out the door for $400 or so IIRC. Great little pistol. I feel completely confident with it.

I fire the XDS 9mm. Only issue I ever had with it is when loading 8 round magazine, one round feeds but the magazine doesn’t lock. I went to seven round and it works fine.

I got two 6 round mags when I bought it. I added two of the 7 round extended. I carry with the 6 round ones as it’s more concealable. The 7 round version are my spares.

I’ve used both extensively in practice and haven’t had any issues. Those pistols just work. Love ‘em.

Photo looks like it’s ported. Is that true - OTB?

I prefer DA/SA, so I sort of wish they had done a version of this using the XDE platform (I am still toying with getting one of the new Langdon Tactical versions of the XDE).

Will be curious to see one, but I definitely like my P365 by Sig Sauer. It is 12+1. Recently added Hogue grip. Perfect concealed carry pistol.

Looks like the front sight dovetail, not ports.

if you need a red dot to hit your target at the distances that kind of gun is designed for(close quarter killing), you have a real problem...

Love my P365. Only plastic pistol I’ve liked. Has less perceived recoil IMO than a Glock 17 and a Walther P99, both much larger guns.
