Not if you live in NY.
The facts:
Nearly half the people living in the district are Hispanic. The next nearest demographic is whites, who comprise 24% of the population.
Forty-seven percent of the residents are foreign-born, with 56% including Ocasio-Cortezs mother having emigrated from Latin America.
Sixty-seven percent speak a language other than English at home with 46% speaking Spanish.
When it comes to education, 53% have either a high school diploma or no degree at all. Only 17% have a bachelors degree from college.
At $58,331, the median household income falls just shy of the median for the United States, which is $60,336.
Not dumb at all...about right for New York.....
Because the voters are equally as ignorant.
As Ive often said when pondering various Congresscritters (Cynthia McKinney comes to mind from 20 years ago, but there are plenty of others who fit the bill):
What scares me is not that such a person exists, but that a Congressional District full of people who will vote such a person into office exists.
Another Democrat Post Turtle.
It was partially the high immigrant population and partially the fact that Crowley didnt even bother to campaign because he thought he had it in the bag.
That said, are all minorities henceforth going to be represented by ignorant, nasty, female wack-jobs? Think Maxine Waters for the pattern.
People who came from a s¥thole country voting to make us just like the sh#@thole they came from. Not complicated. The precise reason we must control our borders.
The Media promoted direct primaries, as a way around the power of the Parties. This was to transfer power from the Parties to the Media. The Media has more power to affect direct elections than insider Party deals.
Ocasio Cortez would never have been selected by the Democrat party to represent the District. When the parties selected the candidates, you had to prove yourself to be a loyal party member before you were ever selected as a candidate.
While the primary system transferred power from the Parties to the Media, it also gave the people chances to directly select candidates.
When the people lost enough confidence in the Media, we got Donald Trump.
Both Donald Trump and Ocasio Cortez show the dwindling power of the Parties and the Media.
most members of Congress are too stupid to be a decent bartender so there’s that...
Pretty much explains the Ocasio-Cortez phenomenon.
So many pundits are digging for demographic, political, social, cultural reasons for her election, thinking they will be identified as great pundits and commentators if they can be the one to fully explain it, and yet, there is a simple time-worn adage that explains the whole thing: "In the land of the blind, the one-eyed man is king."
It’s no mystery to me. Never underestimate the stupidity of people in large groups.
Imbecilic sound bite people voted for her.
People who were promised a free order of spicy buffalo wings.
Demo Dream Team:
Prez & Vice Prez
Not really that much of a mystery.
Look at districts which brought us creatures like Sheila Jackson-Lee.
Matter of fact, I’ll bet SJL came across a lot like this when she was first elected. And she hasn’t improved any.
