Cold war yawn. As we all here know this is nothing that did not happen all the time during the cold war. It was just not news worthy then.

I actually think our guys and their guys like this stuff. It breaks the monotony. We used to think is was cool watching the Soviet trawlers and planes as they watched us.

The NAF would post photos of the best snapshot of Ivan each week.

Most of the pictures I saw were pictures taken by Marines on sea duty. I really did not see that many myself. One of the best one I saw was when we were doing exercises off Southern California. There was a trawler
shadowing us so close he may as well been part of the formation. He suddenly accelerated and cut right through the formation. The sailors were going ape shit. After he did that he did a 180 and cut right back through and headed for the aft of the formation. The most excitement we had on that ship. Bells whistles horns going off....
