It’s time......BEAM ME UP SCOTTY. No intelligent life here.

“Not a citizen” is not the same as “illegal alien”. I don’t recall anything in the original news report about this that indicated that the erstwhile judge was in the US illegally, just that she did not have citizenship and had failed to disclose that on the application form.

She is NOT an illegal alien, but a legal green card holder.
On the application for the job, she was asked if she is legally eligible for employment in the United States. She truthfully answered ‘yes’, because a green card entitles you the permanently reside and work in the US.
The question for this particular job should have been ‘Are you a US citizen?’, but unfortunately, it wasn’t.

I still think you have to be an American citizen to be a judge. How else can you enforce rule of (US) law?. I think all judges take an oath to support the US Constitution. They cannot do that if they are not one of us.

Not a citizen? She broke the law by when she accepted her judgeship and now the officials in TX want her to remain on the bench? I guess that's not as bad as what obozo and Holder did to the law.

For in order to serve on the Municipal Court, someone needs to work in Nueces County for at least two years and be a qualified voter.
If true, they need to check if she registered to vote; if she has, does that form has a "US Citizen" checkbox? If so, that's deliberate law breaking.

I don’t know if I ever filled out a US application for anything where it didn’t ask if I was a US citizen. Did she commit fraud on her application?

Do they have to live in the U.S.—or be present in the U.S.—or can anyone anywhere in the world serve as a judge? or vote in U.S. elections? Why does geography of location make any difference; isn’t that discrimination of some kind?
To: Oldpuppymax
An illegal alien has been passing judgement on the activities of actual Americans.
Calling Judge Roy Bean your services are required at one.

Permanent Resident Alien, not an illegal alien.
Not a citizen, so ineligible to be a judge, but not an illegal alien.

You can actually be a Justice of the Peace in Texas without a law degree...

RE:”
For in order to serve on the Municipal Court, someone needs to work in Nueces County for at least two years and be a qualified voter. But as an alien, Burkett is not permitted to vote. Once again, that silly qualification thing apparently jumped up and “unfortunately” bit her. “ There ya go!
