When I read stories like this I have to wonder whether mental illness is a factor. I have two sons- One is an AF pilot and the other was diagnosed with Schizoaffective Disorder. As a result, I tend to err on the side of compassion for people like this man. People with serious brain disorders have real, biological illnesses but instead of compassion, they are usually subjected to abject ridicule.
