When Army Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl was traded for five high risk Taliban commanders last summer, his platoon mates quickly hit the airwaves to expose him as a deserter. They said it was known he was a deserter for years. The Obama administration, however, gave the appearance to the American people that officials were unaware of the circumstances surrounding his capture. In fact, last year State Department Deputy Spokeswoman Marie Harf said allegations Bergdahl deserted were simply "rumors." Not only did President Obama hold a Rose Garden ceremony to honor Bergdahl, but administration officials Jay Carney and Susan Rice said he "served with honor and distinction."
But now, Army General Stanley McChrystal is confirming the accounts of Bergdahl's platoon mates and said in a recent interview with Fox News it was known Bergdahl deserted immediately after his disappearance.
"My initial understanding, based on the reportings I got, that he had walked off intentionally," McChrystal said.

Bergdahl was officially charged with desertion and inappropriate behavior in front of the enemy earlier this year. He will stand trial at Ft. Sam Houston in Texas. He faces life in prison.
Meanwhile, the five Taliban leaders who were traded for Bergdahl are expected to be released from Qatar custody within weeks. At least one of them has already attempted to engage in jihad against the United States.

OT: The “odd” thing about Stanley McChrystal and the Rolling Stone interview which ended his career is he dissed Biden, not Obama. Biden has no power. Always seemed like something was missing, or edited.

“Deserter”? No way. BERGDAHL WAS A DEFECTOR to the Taliban. So we traded 5 Taliban for 1 Taliban? Why isn’t 0dumbo in prison?

I don’t believe he’s at Fort Hood. I’m here at Fort Hood and haven’t heard anything about it. Last I heard, he was still down at Fort Sam Houston, in San Antonio.
He is currently an E-5 in the US Army, so of course he has benefits such as “full medical” and pay. I’m surprised he’s not Sergeant Major of the Army or a warrant officer.
So sad that seemingly all of the higher up military officials “serving” under Obama have prostituted themselves and the “honor” to which they swore to uphold and the Constitution they swore to protect and defend with their very lives, to remain in their positions or even worse, get promotions.
That is the truth. He will get a promotion sometime before they leave office.
Obama fired McChrystal because McChrystal was critical of the Obama people.

I don’t understand your post. If someone deserts the military just doesn’t let them go on their merry way. They get that person. I don’t know why you would think deserters shouldn’t be apprehended and punish. Bergdahl should be court-martialed- not allowed to waltz away with his Taliban- buddies.
That’s what I do not understand. Why hasn’t anybody spoke up and at least tried to charge Obama with TREASON? We sure have enough reasons to. And yes, even in WW11 they were shooting deserters!

KIA, MIA, AWOL, Deserter, it doesn't matter. You still go looking for him. Stories about intentionally leaving might not have been true, and even with them true, you still try to get the Soldier back under military control as soon as possible.
That requires searching for him and putting Soldiers in harm's way.
War is Hell.
