I saw The Doobie Brothers and Don Felder (Eagles) last night and they still sound great.
Eagles are my all-time favorite. I never get tired of listening to them. I'm a believer in rock keeping us young!
She invented spread-spectrum communications technology.
She was also possibly the most beautiful woman ever photographed. She outshines Grace Kelly, in my view.
A single kiss from her raised $10K for war bonds back during WWII, when that amount could purchase a nice house.
Journey and the original Van Halen.
SRV, Zep, early Journey
So true. Even the marginal '70s talents were giants in comparison. Sam Kinison used to have a joke about the rap guys grabbing their crotches onstage because they couldn't play musical instruments and they had to do *something* up there.
My tastes have drifted away from mainstream rock and roll, towards the more blues-influenced musicians like Buddy Guy and, of course, Clapton's solo work. Mark Knopfler is another one who has expanded far beyond his Dire Straits rock catalog. Check out his concert at the Hurlingham iClub Atrium in London a few years ago (edited down to 1 hour for iConcerts).
The Eagles and Boston
Brian May, the lead guitarist for the band Queen, has a PhD in astrophysics which after taking a bit of a break to play some guitar, he finally completed in 2007 and has published several books and papers on the subject and is now the chancellor of Liverpool John Moores University.
Fleetwood Mac (and not just the Buckingham/Nicks era; there was a lot of great stuff before them and while they were away)
Ditto
Deep Purple, Uriah Heep, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Jo Jo Gunne, Humble Pie and such. Too many to name just one.
Eagles are mine too.
A little too heavy metal for my taste.
Beatles, Beach Boys, Monkees, Rolling Stones, and Led Zeppelin.
Yup. My favorite band too. Forty years together and the three of them get along like brothers. How many bands have that longevity and still be close? Love the fact Geddy Lee is a huge baseball fan too.
‘She was also possibly the most beautiful woman ever photographed. “
She wasn’t ugly but a trip down any So.California or Miami beach in the 80s would turn up no end of women that aesthetic level or better.
Queen, Meatloaf.................
Ditto.
SRV and Double Trouble are blues. If they’re included in this then they are my favorite. Rock and Roll has snubbed them- not that they would care
No, I'm kidding. But their two albums kind of demonstrate my point. Between "Ginger Baker's Air Force" and "Ginger Baker's Air Force 2" (both released in 1970!), about the only musicians who stayed the same were Baker and Graham Bond.
Still, it was a pretty good band, post-Cream - my favorite of course, being the 12:59 "Toad". But I digress.
When you talk "Rock Band", there are too many instances of a band, especially one that spans decades, having so many different musicians. Keith Moon dies, and the Who replace him with Kenney Jones. Well, no problem, what else can you do? But there are quite a few revolving-door rock bands that have many, many, many personnel changes, some of whom I list here:
I recall seeing Wilson Picket and Ike and Tina all playing with Otis Redding and band in 1964. That band had some awesome sounds from sax, trumpets to guitar, drums etc.
