So, what is the practical affect of this? Do we now drink 10 glasses of milk a day?
Now we have to ‘mainline’ vitamin D?
I take 5000 IU a day for three years and I rarely get sick and the few times I did catch something, it was very mild and maybe lasted a day..
I swear by the stuff...

How does one get that much vitamin D in a balanced diet?
I take a supplement in the winter because I live in the north ...but as soon as the weather allows I spend as much time as possible outdoors..
Also people need to cut back on sunscreens.. they block the positive effect of the sun..
Are they talking about Vitamin D3? I was thinking about boosting my intake, but it looks like I may have to increase the intake much more than I thought!
"Clinical enthusiasm for supplemental vitamin D has outpaced available evidence on its effectiveness," JoAnn E. Manson and Shari S. Bassuk of the Division of Preventive Medicine at Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston wrote last week in the journal's online version.
This practice isn't totally harmless. You should be consuming 600 international units daily if you're between the ages of 1 and 70, and 800 IU each day if you're 71 or older, according to the Institute of Medicine, the health arm of the National Academcy of Sciences. (For a chart with a little more detail, see here.) These amounts are enough for 97.5 percent of U.S. and Canadian residents, according to the IOM. (Sunlight stimulates production of vitamin D for people in sunnier climes.)
Go above 4,000 IUs, unless there's a specific reason that you need that amount, and you risk kidney stones, calcification of blood vessels and possibly the very cardiovascular disease you were seeking to prevent, Manson said in an interview.
I take 2000 IU of natural source liquid cap D3 a day ... use to take 4000 IU .... maybe I should up that.
Finally.
All adults should take 10,000 iu a day especially if there are chronic illnesses or you want CANCER prevention. More if actively Ill. Skip days where you get plenty of sun on about half your body (wearing shorts sleeves and shorts, for example). Don’t wear sunscreen before you go out into the sun. Put it on when you know you would burn, anywhere from 30 To 120 mins into your sun exposure -— you know how well your skin responds to the sun. But get a little on it with NO protection first.
Be sure to add K2 to make sure that the D3 does what it is supposed to do. If you don’t get a lot of dark green leafy veggies, the K2 is essential.
I’ve been taking 4000 IU of Vitamin D3 daily, but I recently upgraded it to 5000 IU—plus another 1000 in my calcium citrate pills.
The new pills are mini soft gels, instead of capsules containing powder. Looks good to me.
Needless to say, I am not a doctor, and people should do their own due diligence and consult their doctors. I think this is a good source, and a reasonable price, but people may find something better:

Why should I believe the same bunch that told me to eat margarine that low fat foods are good for you?
Ok, I have a question. If this study shows you need more, than how does that square with the current results people are getting in their blood tests? Shouldn’t that level be required to be higher based on what this new study shows? Which came first, the blood test result or the amount to ingest?
I take 2000 IU/Day per my doctor’s instructions.
And, if you watch Sunday Housecall on FOX, both doctors also recommend 2000 IU/day.
codex Alimentarius...
For quite some time I was feeling lousy. No explanation. Finally had my blood checked. Dr called me and said my vit D level was alarming low. Get on Vir D3 asap. Made a difference. Not expensive.
I take 4,000 IU D3 everyday. Plus 2,000 of calcium. We also take Tumeric and B complex.
