Anyone else experiencing slower Internet / bandwidth?

Posted on 03/14/2015 8:00:09 PM PDT by jsanders2001

I have noticed a significantly slower Internet bandwidth speed lately. I'm decently savvy with computer. I have cleared the cache, checked for browset helper objects, viruses, trojans, reset the modem and router and have connected directly from the modem to the computer; still have a slow connection. Even disconnected other computers and access points on the network. I called my ISP and they say they haven't had any outages.

So my question - is anyone experiencing this?

Yes. I especially notice it when I check Facebook in the morning. It gets really sticky and sometimes freezes my computer up for several minutes.

Use http://www.testmy.net/ to test your speed from time to time and it self logs. That way you have a running log of dates, times and speed so you can spot trends and show to your ISP.

Speedtest.com is another alternative.

You can't really depend on how fast stuff seems to load. There are way too many possible reasons between you and your destination -- some network related, some not -- for that to be meaningful as a benchmark. Go to http://www.speedtest.net/

DO NOT click where it says "START NOW." Wait until the page loads, and then click "BEGIN TEST."

The only slow down I ever experience these days is with web pages full of Flash objects (TheBlaze.com, for instance). If I have a window or two like this open, it will sometimes make my computer crawl. [Windows 7 64-bit, FF browser, Comcast cable service].

back to basics..

in task manager check your network speeds, cpu time, i/o reads and i/o writes.

see who your heavy hitters are.

Maybe you are stuck in net neutral.

Yep here, I can hardly play battlefield 4 without rubber banding issues. Freaking blows, all of my squadmates are experiencing it.

Add in NoScript. Then run the Flash that YOU want, not what they want.
