Thanks. He is a great guy, and he is very cautious about safety, but this just worries me. Oh, well, I can pray about it.

Thank you for your update. It’s an odd coincidence that those, Billy and Ruth are my parents names. I remembered your Uncle Billy at Mass this morning and I am praying for them both now. I will mention it to my Mom (I call her the “big guns” when the situation calls for a supernatural resolution) who is 86.

Continuing to pray for both Bill and Ruth.

Funny, but I had cousins with those names — married couple.

God bless you ant, and praying that your husband pulls through A-OK on this surgery!

It really is inspiring seeing how so many on FR reach out to help! It is not the first time for me.

Thank you Salv.

Just thought I'd put a pix of Uncle Billy, during the Korean War. His daughter just posted this. (He looks SO much like his father, BTW. To this day.)

I know he is an old man, but he was so sharp, spry and healthy (except got adult diabetes). The man is literally a genius, albeit not too much common sense. ;-)

Your uncle was a handsome young man and as for the genius part, it rarely goes with much common sense. (I could be writing that sentence about my son Bill, too.)

Continuing prayers for you uncle's recovery and good health.

I share the sentiment, but I do not know who Jimmy V is.

That is quite a stunning photo. What a treasure. Looks like a Rockwell work, what with your uncle’s expression as he reads/studies those papers.

Continued prayers for Uncle Billy.

I think he was basically in intelligence and other diplomatic services, because he is brilliant with language. He speaks 7 languages fluently and reads many more with ease (yes, it includes oriental languages). Known for huge library of foreign books. He learned these things himself, just because he was interested.

That’s just amazing. He sure should merit at least another 30 good years of life so he can share his knowledge and experience with the youngest family members!

I feel enriched just reading the little bit you have posted about him.

Jim Valvano was a college basketball coach at NC State. He was diagnosed with terminal cancer and a short time before his death he gave a great speech acknowledging his mortality but told others “don’t give up, don’t ever give up”. He is the inspiration for the V Foundation to fight cancer. The point is that his speech is very motivational and uplifting. Here is a link to the video of his speech. Watch the video, reading the transcript does not do the speech justice.
