A University of Pittsburgh newspaper writer has declared it offensive to condemn ISIS. ISIS. The terrorist organization murdering innocents and cutting off the heads of journalists.
How could condemning ISIS possibly be offensive? Author Eli Talbert, a Pitt columnist, explains in a piece called "Why Condemning ISIS is Offensive." He begins by saying that ISIS "might also be a concern," but what is much, much more "disturbing," according to Talbert? Moderate Muslims denouncing the terrorist group.
First, he cites President Obama's call for Muslims to denounce ISIS as an example of "thinly disguised Islamophobia." Talbert retorts that expecting any Muslim to condemn ISIS "is an affront to all that is good and American."
Muslims shouldn't condemn ISIS because, according to Talbert, "Just because there are worse things happening in the world, doesnt mean we cant complain about things that are wrong here." As if you cannot do both things at once.
And ISIS would never take the word of other Muslims more seriously than others, because apparently they are thoughtful and not prejudiced: "If ISIS were to treat condemnation from fellow Muslims as special, then that would be an act of cultural insensitivity and maybe even religious bigotry." And ISIS wouldn't be cultural insensitive or be religious bigots, apparently.
He then demanded to know, "Where is our religious tolerance?"
Talbert then says that he does not and refuses to condemn serial rapists.

I condemn ISIS.
At least he’s consistent: he doesn’t condemn serial rapists like muhammad either.
I think Eli Talbert would think differently if it was his friends and family being threatened by ISIS.
ISIS thanks him for his support.
The writer is either a total diphsit or it’s some really good satire.
Over-educated beyond his paltry intelligence.
Most likely the former. Colleges are full of morons like this one. Journalism seems to draw them like flies to sh*t.
This is a lone writer. Your misleading headline suggests it’s the newspapers opinion.
I condemn Pitt University - for giving a platform to such an obtuse dimwit.
Dear Eli,
Muslims need, desperately need to condemn ISIS.
Just as Christians condemn the murdering of abortion doctors or that crazy church that protests funerals, as being non-representative of the ways of Christ.
For muslims to not condemn ISIS, is to award tacit approval to those claiming their actions are in the name of your god.
I don’t know the person who wrote thus trash, when they said “obama’s blaintant hostility towards islamics”, immeditatly disqualified him from reading further.
There is no such thing as moderate islamics, there are just islamics.
And to think there are people in this country who actually think like that. No wonder the mental health system is in crisis.
Obama Islamophobic? It is to laugh!
The Bradshaw/Lambert Steelers...Only good thing to ever happen in The Pitt short of the Brotherhood of Steel scourge..
/Fallout 3 reference
It is an admission that ISIS is Islam. It is Islam that is rampaging murderously through the world. ISIS is what we call it right now.
More evidence that going to college makes you stupider nowadays.
My teenaged daughter (high school sophomore), who is a great kid and no fool, said to me last nite: “I believe in education. It’s just that what they offer in that school isn’t education. It’s just a waste of time.”
I have to say, sadly, that it’s hard to disagree with her — especially in a state (and town) that is committed to Common Core.
Workplace writolence?
As a woman I am totally islamophobic! I find slavery disgusting.....as any good liberal should if they really believed in half the crap they spout....but alas they only believe in supporting evil in whatever form it takes.
