Leadership Of Far-Right Golden Dawn Party, Third Most Popular In Greece, Arrested
Zerohedge ^ | 09/28/2013 | Tyler Durden

Posted on 09/28/2013 8:14:02 AM PDT by Rusty0604

Police had arrested the leader and more than a dozen senior members of the far-right Golden Dawn party after the killing of an anti-fascist rapper by a party supporter triggered outrage and protests across the country. Reuters reports that the party's leader, spokesman, two other lawmakers and 10 members were arrested on charges of founding a criminal organisation. Police confiscated two guns and a hunting rifle from the home of Mihaloliakos, saying he did not have a license for them. As has been reported previously, Golden Dawn, is under investigation for the murder of Pavlos Fissas, who bled to death after being stabbed twice by a party sympathiser.

While PM Samaras ruled out snap elections after the arrests, it is difficult to see how this full crackdown on Golden Dawn can be contained in government without major repercussions: "Justice, stability, without elections," he said.

The party has denied any links to the killing and Mihaloliakos has warned the party could pull its lawmakers from parliament if the crackdown does not stop. Golden Dawn, whose emblem resembles a swastika, rose from obscurity to enter parliament last year after promising to mine Greece's borders to prevent illegal immigrants from entering. Its members have been seen giving Nazi-style salutes but the party rejects the neo-Nazi label.

One thing is certain: in Greece, where broad unemployment (not to mention youth) hits a new record high every month, the population certainly has a lot of free time. All that would take for that idleness to be harnessed and catalyzed, is some major ideologically-charged social event which instead of dismantling the neonazis, further coalesces public support behind them as a conduit for social anger at the ongoing economic collapse: a screenplay well known since a certain Beer Hall Putsch.

I don’t know what goes on in Durden’s mind, but I think he was just reporting it as it is reported in Europe.

Unfortunately, the leftist in this country (including politicians)do not know or care that the “right” in Europe are socialists. They take advantage of the low information voters and stir up hatred for our “right” by calling them “Nazis, racists extremists”. I have been called those names and when I tell them that the Nazis were socialists they look at me like I’m nuts.

A conservative party doesn’t promise to fix problems. It promises to get out of the way, so you can fix your own problems.

"I hope we have once again reminded people that man is not free unless government is limited. There's a clear cause and effect here that is as neat and predictable as a law of physics: as government expands, liberty contracts."

"Government's first duty is to protect the people, not run their lives."

"The nine most terrifying words in the English language are, 'I'm from the government and I'm here to help.'"

The US actually has a history of doing likewise: Jackson exiled Indians along the Trail of Tears; Lincoln imprisoned copperheads who opposed him without trial; Wilson imprisoned Eugene Debs and Charles Schenck for speech crimes; FDR imprisoned Japanese-Americans without trial because they had Japanese grandparents.

In each case, the Supreme Court ruled such actions were constitutional and the President went unpunished for gross violations of natural rights. In fact, high school history teachers throughout the Land regard these four among the greatest of US presidents, and their images decorate US coin and currency.

If the President wishes to harass, imprison, or even murder somebody, he can, provided either that the somebody is sufficiently unpopular or that he can keep it secret. Contrary to the civics lessons taught in junior high school, that is the way government really works.

“The Greeks do not have a long history with democracy”

Uh, I think they invented democracy back in the 3rd century BC.

If I were forced to make a choice between living under Stalin and living under Hitler I’d be hard pressed to make a quick or satisfactory decision.

It would be an easy decision for me: emigrate.

Fortunately, with the two main US parties, Americans are given the choice between kinder, gentler versions of Lenin and Trotsky.

Uh, they were a monarchy until 40 years ago. Their modern experience with democracy has been short and ugly.

"...Golden Dawn, whose emblem resembles a swastika,..."

If that's the swastika resembling emblem in your picture, it's not a swastika. It's an ancient decorative motif known as a 'meander' or more specifically, a 'Greek Key'.

IIRC there are several writers for ZeroHedge that all use the Tyler Durden moniker. Makes it difficult to pin them down to one position.

You would think the Greeks would know about a “Greek Key”

Maybe their modern experience with democracy is short but the were the “cradle of democracy” in ancient history.

I’m guessing you feel the same about the muslim brotherhood?

Those who have not personally performed or ordered violent acts, yes.

The Golden Dawn are neo nazis.

No, they are not, and I wish them well. Shallow servants however may regard them as such.

Nationalism is very bad and anti-Semetic. Unless you’re a Zionist of course.

I guess the Greek government is carrying out their orders via the Soviet Union style arrests . It’s amazing that Greek politicians would say that it was necessary to do a purge to “preserve democracy” - of people who were democratically elected. Internationalists have nothing good in store for us, and are enemies. I would hope that people who are gloating about this aren’t members of orgs like the NRA, who the same people oppose.

These clowns are about as anti right in the English speaking sense as you can get. They would make the far left in America seem moderate.

Golden Dawn issues anti-Semitic diatribe against AJC’s Harris on Greece visit

The statement from Golden Dawn, posted on the party’s website Thursday, slammed the Greek government for giving Harris high-level access. “Just from the meetings, one can understand the influence of international Judaism on the Greek political scene,” the statement said. “The political leadership will once again express its total subjugation to the whims of the ‘chosen’ people."

It also derided Harris.

"The only solidarity of this gentleman is to his compatriots — the international loan sharks, who are humiliating the Greek people. His concern most likely is related to the inability of Greece make the payments of the predatory interest rates of the vile loans,” it said. “We do not need the crocodile tears of a Jew.”

They are Greeks who want Greece to remain Greece. I support them, and also signed a petition for them. Hope you aren’t a member of any org that chaps the hide of an internationalist. BTW, everything isn’t about the Jews.

Come to think if it, I raised my arms after I did a half marathon in under 2 hours. I hope nobody took a pic and accuses me of being a “neo-nazi”. The USA is my land and I will not kowtow to internationalists - the same way the Golden Dawn would not. Don’t be a servant.
