A person needs to understand how “Power” is distributed among the levels of the Triad. First level is the power elite who draw its members from three areas: the highest political leaders including the president and a handful of key cabinet members and close advisers; major corporate owners and directors; and high-ranking military officers. The Second or middle level (the Congress, the courts, the states), who implement corrupt policies and trample liberties, and the Third level are the masses (sheeple), you and I that get NOTHING.
Most of the participants in the middle level are actually motivated by rather selfish and parochial interests and lack of a moral compass. Taking a short-run view of problems, elected officials have become political whores who use media, television and advertising gimmicks to sell themselves to an increasingly cynical and faithless public. In their hands, policy becomes a means to an end, blackmail, bribery, corruption, deceit, theft, and getting re-elected, rather than an end in it-self.
For the masses (sheeple), the power elite establish corrupt policy agendas in such areas as national security and economics (Patriot Act and Obamacare). Of course, since it only sets the guidelines, the middle level have plenty to do implementing them, but the public (Voters) have been virtually locked out of the system. Its main activities--wearing campaign buttons, expressing opinions to pollsters and media alike, voting every two or four years--are mostly symbolic. The people (Voters) no longer directly affect the direction of fundamental serious policies. Why does the population remain so docile (and paralyzed) I ask in the face of increased abuse by the power elite?
The power elite have been getting increasingly immoral, irresponsible, ignorant, stupid, and mindless in its quest for wealth and power. Just look at our Military, Marriage, Free Speech, Privacy, and the list goes on. Congress turning a blind eye on President Obama and his followers targeting of Americans through the use of the IRS and other governmental agencies.
America is in desperate need to engage in a highly organized and strategic mass media counter-propaganda campaign. We (The Marine Sentinel) and others in the alternate media must continue the onslaught against the lame stream media complex. We have to control the message and educate the masses as to what is really happening at home and in the world. Most people have no morals, principles or goals which guide their lives. "Democracy" is a distant and uninteresting concept. Most people are worried about getting through today and tomorrow. They do not think beyond the next paycheck. The problem is most people literally don’t care about anyone beyond their immediate family and friends. Tribalism is the rule, not the exception.
Communication still takes time and effort. Many people do not communicate well. A tiny minority bother to read any part of any canon. The level of inertia is amazing, literally amazing. The biggest challenge is trying to organize people against corrupt systems of government. "Freedom's just another word for nothing left to lose."

The “High Command” are tolerated and coddled because they are needed. The US Military is now a tool to protect the special interests who are implementing the New World Order.

Chickensoup is right. The highest levels of the military are political appointees.
Colin Powell is the exception that proves the rule. A better example is Dempsey. He’s no elite, he is just an obedient lap dog, as are the majority of the rest. When the elites are done with them, they hang a medal on their chest and toss them aside for another. The military have not been part of the power elite for a very long time.

I anticipate no official declaration of war "communitah protection" against We The People; Just a quiet series of False Flag ops "temporary" regs intended (in the name of "security" of course) to confiscate firearms and suspension of the 2A "until the imminent threat is under control."
What's crucial for the PTB is to have the media encourage and understate the actions as "routine", in the name of "helping your neighbor be safe by cooperating."
