I don’t know enough about Texas, so I’m gonna ask.
The percentage of Texans of Hispanic descent is on the rise. Do these folks, as a group, subscribe to traditional Texan values (rugged individualism, mistrust of big government, etc.)?
Or do they see Texas as just location on the map?
I lives in Texas for 10 years, the Texans of Mexican descent who have been in Texas for generations, from the time of the original land grant form the King of Spain, are not the same as the illegal immigrant. They seem to hate it as much as the any Texan does.
His family and mine were here when nations really didn't have much power, except for the native nations that both his family and mine were fighting. That would mainly be from NM territory and OK territory.
The ones from Guatamala that are here without a visa? Not so much.
I'm a Texan that speaks enough proper spanish to be polite, and enough improper spanish to get into a fight or get a bathroom, a bottle, or a girl.
Deep down, for the ones that have roots here, I'm ok with that. The others? {redacted}.

I live in Louisiana now and I have lived in California. The Texan of Hispanic heritage fly Texas flags and have Texas bumper stickers and love their cowboy hats and boots. In Ca. the Hispanics fly the Mexican flag. Big difference.
The ones I know (since '84) are Texans first, and have no sympathy for amnesty. Strong, church going, pro-life, salt of the earth patriots.
