Anybody else think Chipper's "hit" wasn't a hit?

I have always liked Chipper Jones - great player- good for baseball for last several years, but he got a gift last night. Agreed?

I don't have any problems with a "services rendered" hit in an exhibition game, but it is what it is.

There’s no doubt in my mind that the AL second baseman, in a regular season game, would have dived for that ball. There was time to tumble, get up and throw the 40 year-old Chipper out at first.
And I’m a Braves fan.
Perhaps the 8 to 0 score at the time played a role in the player’s mind also.
Chipper knew it was a gift, thus the laughter when he got to first.

I thought it was a hit. In a “real” game that wasn’t already a blowout, I think Kinsler would have made more of an effort to field the ball, but I didn’t think at the time that he could have thrown him out at first. He was to far in the outfield.

I saw nothing wrong with that. It was all in good fun, which it should be.

Jeters wasn’t a hit either

As a life long Bronxite and Yankees fan, it was painful to get rid of melky but we got granderson.
Plus, Melky and Cano were partying it up nightly.

‘reminded me of Brett Favre’s gift to Strayhand (sp?) for the sack record.

I don’t know that it was 100% a “Gift” but I think it was definately a “this is an exhibition game and the score is 8-0 and I am not diving and risking injury” play.

I mentioned Favre’s gift as well last night. This is not brain surgery and we can't stay strapped into our chairs talking politics 24x7 so why not give Chipper a going away present?

As a life long New Yorker and Yankee fan Melky was a distraction to Robinson thus the trade. :)
