This is what happens when you don’t have a market setting prices. Government workers think they deserve to retire at 47. Or remember the one teacher who told Christie that she deserved to make $80K plus full benefits to work 8 months a year because of her “education.” It is a pure power grab by the unions and its paid for by the taxpayer serfs.
I am upset that I can’t have a pony.
I take it she doesn’t teach math.
There is always the outside chance she will be hit by a truck before retirement.
I suspect that she could retire when she wants but couldn’t collect benefits until she reach the age of 60. Of course this is just a guess on my part.
Eliminate tenure.
Now.
Why do I get the feeling that she will spend the next 16 years making her students sorry that she wasn’t allowed to retire at 47?
Where but the public sector can you retire at 60,000 per annum with guaranteed COLAs?
In the business world, you fund all (or 90% plus) of your own retirement. If you are lucky you can find an affordable COBRA plan (not likely). You get NO guaranteed anything. AND if you plan really well you may be able to retire when you are 60 or so more likely 66 or later.
I am so sick of teachers unions and their whining members I could scream....
So what’s stopping her? Or does she want the taxpayers to pay for it?
If you want to retire if you are 47, apparently teaching is not the place to go, Owens said. The least Terri could do is provide a list of places other people could go so they can retire when they are 47.
Army, Air Force. Navy or Marines. Of course, we do have our standards...
I just love this comment.... politicians level of entitlement,
So truthful...
Poor poor terri. What a bleeding shame.
and for her 60,000 pension for the next 40 years or so a fund of about $1,500,000 would have to be set aside or the equivalent PV (sure she has no idea what that is) in taxes would have to be paid by people working to support her.
She has no idea what she costs. She sure isn’t worth much though.
I think that means, "If you want to retire at 47, start a company that produces something people want and need and manage it well." The problem with that when applied to most of the active teachers (who all insist on being called "educators" for some reason) I know is that not a one of them is capable of starting and running a company or doing much of anything else.
Were it not for tenure, many of the "educators" I know would applying for unemployment benefits.
She started teaching at age 17? Or maybe she started working for the school district at that age.
Retire at 47? Sure! Ms. List should move to Greece.
No one working for the government should be able to collect retirement untill they actually reach retirement. Even military, unless medical.
Sorry, but if you can worked, you should work. The idea of retirement was for financial security when your body couldn’t do that. retirement was supposed to last a couple years, not a couple decades.
The human body isn’t designed to retirement.
I know a man who retired from fire rescue as early as possible, who’s body went to crap. Her couldn’t walk far at all. I know another who waited until 84, and his mind was still in great shape, and body better than most 60 yo. Her only retired because of his wife.
I know which one I want to emulate.
If her deal sucks so bad, she ought to quit. Friggin’ ridiculous.
47 seriously? And only 30 years in at 60? She should try the real world! My hubby had 30 years in on the job at age in 2007 at the ripe old age of 49. Even though he is qualified with years in to retire he isn’t old enough and won’t be until he is at least 55 and he is not ready to retire then.Who in their right minds would want to lock in a fixed income right now with inflation setting in?
