Women to attend Marines' infantry school

Women to attend Marines' infantry school [Updated at 1:04 p.m. ET] The U.S. Marine Corps plans to allow a yet-undetermined number of female volunteers to enroll in the school that trains its infantry combat officers, the Marine Corps Times has reported.

The plan to open the Infantry Officers Course to women is part of the service's effort to determine which additional jobs may be open to women in the future, Gen. Joseph Dunford, the Marines' assistant commandant, told the Marine Corps Times.

"We are in the process right now of soliciting volunteers," Dunford told the Times for a story published Wednesday.

Enlisted women also eventually will have a chance to take infantry training, Dunford told the Times, which reported that it wasn't yet clear what path the women who complete the training would follow.

The decision to open the school to female volunteers is part of a research plan implemented after Congress directed the Marines to review their policies on assigning women to ground combat elements, Capt. Kevin Schultz, a Marines spokesman, told CNN on Thursday.

Just heard about this - another forced program by this administration to try to change several thousand years of human history while wrecking today's Marine Corps.

We are stuck with our first Air Wing Commandant, hand selected by Rahm Emanuel for Obama.

The admixture of women into the infantry on top of the forced addition of openly-serving gays is a death knell for unit cohesion and combat effectiveness.

We can't get this damn bunch out fast enough!

I would never ask my son to go in the service in any branch while the Kenyan is in charge. This crap has to stop or we won’t have a military.

If Sarah Palin can be President, women can be Marines.

That’s the reason the left and the “egalitarians” push this so relentlessly. They want the military destroyed. Of course, this is a dream come true for Islamists. I wonder how the libs will feel once Mohammedanism has taken over?

The Marines are off my list since the Haditha witch hunt. We have a Marine command that will not support its own against whoring politicians. This shows the extent to which the careerist cabal that runs the Corps today will go to grovel before its political masters. If I can help it, no relative of mine will EVER join the Marines.

How often does the President need to carry 100 lbs? I’m thinking, “Not often”...

Sure. What they’ll do is lower the qualifications for the men to make it “fair”.

From the back cover of “Joan of Arc.”

“I like Joan of Arc best of all my books, and it is the best. I know it perfectly well. And besides, it furnished me seven times the pleasure afforded me by any of the others; twelve years of preparation, and two years of writing. The others needed no preparation and got none.” Mark Twain.

I went through officer ITS 30 years ago. I was 25 and in extremely good shape. There were some training exercises that wore me ragged: long march, receive order, write order, issue order, implement order, finish mission, debrief, sleep a couple of hours and repeat. I’m not certain how many women can physically accomplish that schedule. Which only leads me to conclude thay they’ll modify the training.

I read the book. It has no relevance to women in infantry combat.

the careerist cabal that runs the Corps today

Please Sir, consider yourself persona-non-grata amongst Marines.

The VAST majority of women do NOT want to crawl in the mud and hunt and kill people. A few select might, but only a few.

It’s a fact that there are some women who could possibly be good Infantry officers in my beloved Corps, but for the most part this is a dumb move. I spent 23 years in the Marine Corps. I spent time in combat units and time in support units. There is a bond between Marines in combat units that isn’t as intense in support units. Flame me if you want to, but the dynamic changes the minute a woman becomes part of a unit. You can feel it. Marines become more subdued, the trust level falls, and the female is resented because she does not have to maintain the same physical standards as her male counterparts. These are my observations over a period of 23 years. It may not be PC but it is the truth as I experienced it.
