Krauthammer: Self-Indulgence

Thanks to you, Neil, and other patriots at this thread. What a great exchange! You guys verbalize so much more articulately than any “articles’ I’ve seen, even from “Conservative” journalists. I have been asked to write an editorial for a group I belong to and you have given me fodder this morning.

I am really sick of faux Conservatives “I’m a Republican”, some of whom are family members! My kids know that to express any even remotely liberal ideas in this house is to be written out of the will.
But my daughter and son in law suggest that any Republican is better than none and while we are at it, why don’t we amend the Constitution to make it more modern? Finally, “Rush is too extreme!” Oh please..
You better be making a good salary, guys, cuz you are so on the edge of losing any future inheritance! :-)

I get furious at family dinners and feel like throwing mashed potatoes at them.
As for friends who say, “We just don’t go there” or “I”m not sure where they stand on politics”, you are linguine spined wusses!
I pronounce my right leanings, love of country and commitment to the principles of the founding fathers to the grocery store clerk and the garbage man. You betcha.

Who cares about discretion and being politically correct? We are in the fight of our lives and we need to stand on the shoulders of Ronald Reagan.

Your thinking is 100% backward (not meant as an insult. Take it literally).

They will say, see, we lost because you stood on principle and did not support a liberal, abortion loving, gun rights taking, tax and spend Republican. Our answer must be, you lost because you ignored us. And you will keep losing until you pay attention to the conservative base.

What your position does not take into account is that we have already been losing. That is what has brought us near to the end.

Let me correct your last sentence. "If they lose...it's the beginning..."

If we were to take the Senate back with Castle-type RINOs, the balance of power would lie with those same RINOs - I'm thinkin' Gang of 14 multiplied by 50. We could all watch with breathless anticipation, while McCain "reaches out" to compromise on amnesty, cap and trade, healthcare and so much more.

The worst part would be knowing we followed the Party and voted for the a-holes who sold us out.
